  2. Don't need to see a land mark to know that this is just insanely fast. He'll get the tranny sorted out and that record is going down.

I was fortunate enough to see this run(and all the other runs that week) . That's a mile every 7.8 seconds. I couldn't take any pictures because I didn't have time. Wayno

That is a well done video that really gives you a sensation of the speed. I watched Don Vesco Run 410 in Turbinator in 1998 and that was sensational but I think this may top that.

  14. There aren't really any landmarks to help judge the speed, but if you look very closely and don't blink (or think of blinking), you can see the mile marker cones go by. WOW that is insane!, check those cones going by to other runs on the net at "regular" bonneville speeds. Insane!

There was a small group of crazy old geezers like me at the six mile mark. We waited six hours to see a car that drove past in six seconds. Talk about zoom-zoom! It was a great way to spend a week of retirement.

Since it was to be a 2 way run, they started at the far end so they would have everything for the turnaround available to them at the pits. Makes sense if you think about it. Wayno

ok, I understand why all the NASCAR/IndyCar etc guys get all the attention, but you would think that a feat like this would get more press, but nary a mention -- at least I didn't see any...462 on land with a homebuilt car...where was Time Magazine, or 60 minutes?

Still, what a feat! thanks for posting

  24. I can't understand why Speed Channel hasn't done a series on dry lakes racing. I guess it's because the lakes have always been about the pride rather than about the money and therefore can't give Speed Channel a bunch of money to air stuff. I used to enjoy Nascarand winston, but it's gotten so far out of hand with corporate money, it's not even realistic anymore. Don't get me wrong there's some serious money out at B'ville, but the true roots of the lakes are still there. There's just so much history there, it should have a series. IMHO. I guess I"ll have to settle watching bobsledding and talent shows on Speed Channel!!!

and I thought building a vintage oval for Bonneville would be fast enough.

That video has got me thinking............

    Pure awesome!!!!

  29. Man, that was cool!

George Poteet is living the dream. I especially like him because he's not some stuck-up rich guy. I saw him last year at the GNRS and he was wearing regular old clothes and had a giant mustard stain on his shirt. Totally incognito and very approachable. A very cool guy.
