With the H.A.M.B. Drags coming up, I thought it was high-time to study up on ways to win. So I grabbed my February, 1957 issue of Rod Builder & Customizer and got my learn on. Afterwards, I figured it to be downr...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Ryan, You just made my month. Page 6 contains a photo of my late Grandfather in his dragster. While I have a few other photos of him with the car around this same time period, I have NEVER seen this photo before. As you may recall I still have the dragster (in its 1960 ish configuration - See link in my signature for more details.) THANKS !!!!!
Just was rereading this a few days ago and telling the guys in the shop about "THE MOLE". That "DIG DIG DIG" on the back decklid is why I love mid 50's drag racing so much. There's so much personality in the cars and they are all on the cusp of really taking drag racing to a new level. Love this entry!
All points well taken. I am running the fastest red and white 59 Ford Ranch Wagon six cylinder beast at The Drags. Since I am shooting at another track record for six cylinder red and white Ranch Wagons this is all vital. We are hoping to break the 30 secound barrier and hope there is a couple of old stock six bangers, or four, that we might blow there doors off. A new filter has been placed in the secret super charger air cleaner for maximum power!! Be There and Beware!! ~sololobo~ p.s. the dragster happening is the coolest! Congrats!
No Kidding! I swear! It is interesting that they would have chosen his dragster as the roll bar did not even clear his head. But, if you look at most of the cars back then that did not even have a roll bar, his was better than none More photos at link below... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/album.php?albumid=4689
I agree with you. This is what I need to remember. Sometimes, (often?) I get too serious at the track. Especially, what I believe The HAMB format of racing is all about, having FUN!
It's cool, to me, that a Japanese American, in that time, can have a sense of humor. Kinda goes back to the "Mole", page right?
