Looking for the Chev car which had a 10 bolt, 2.23 ratio third member ? Anyone have any idea's.... Diesel powered possibly.... No it is not for the street, it is for a Bonneville car...
Thanks for your reply.... My buddy is running a 10 bolt in his Bonneville car with hydraluic tubing used for axle tubes adapted to Ford 9" axles..... However; he purchased the gears off of ebay and the seller was not aware of what the donor car was...
Didn't find the gear ratio your looking for,but I came across this web site.It has ID info on 10 bolt rear ends. http://www.348-409.com/differential.html
Any chance there is the GM part number stamped into either gear? I thought some were marked? If so, do a google like " GM 3xxxxxx " sometimes you will get a match. If no match, bring the number to a friendly GM parts counter guy. best I can do.
The only one I know of that's close is the 12 bolt car '65 to '70 could be special ordered with a 2.29. Very rare. Never heard of a 2.23 in an 8.5 10 bolt. Seems pretty likely though. I've seen 2.41s. Maybe try to see what GM full size diesel cars had for a ratio in the '78 to '84 era . Steve weim55 Colorado
You looking for a carrier or gears? I've never heard of 2.23 gears for a 10-bolt but I wouldn't be surprised. If you already have the gears a 2 series carrier from a 2.41 or 2.56 should work and I believe Larry T is correct on the 2.29 geared 'Birds. I think a lot of the late 70's early 80's full size GM's had 2.29's too.
Larry: You are probably correct on the gear ratio, as I was not sure on the ratio, just going from memory....... Thanks.....
Neil......Garys 2.29 set is out of 78 malibu and his 2.41 set came out of a Irac eee taxi. Still running the 2.29"s no probs......see ya.
GM made a 2:14 in a 10 bolt metric 7.5 around late 70's through 84 i think, hard to find. monte carlo, regal, ect. I had to go with a 2:41 for my Diesel Hot Rod.
The '79 (only) Cadillac Seville has a 2.28 10 bolt ........either an 8.2 or 8.5......I have one I was planning to use on a pickup project...........The '79 also has 5 x 5" wheel bolt pattern........earlier versions ('76 & 77.....not sure about '78) have 5 x 4 3/4" wbp.............The width hub face to hub face is 59" (maybe 59 1/2) they are disc brake equipped but will take normal 10 bolt drum backing plates.
