Car/garage fires scare the living shit out of me. We owe a lot to this guy so it only makes sense we pony up and give a little back if we can.

  3. My collection isn't very big or very important but I would hate to loose it in a fire. This is a good cause, thanks for sharing. I remember Tom's cartoons long before I knew who he was.

Ok, is there a specific fund to contribute to or ? I've enjoyed Tom's cartoons and other contributions since I was 11 or 12 years old and picked up my first rod magazine with one of his cartoons in it. I got to spend a memorable thirty or so minutes visiting with him and Tex Smith and enjoying their stories in 1988 at Plesanton where they had a booth set up. We could help a lot just if the majority of active Hambers would give a couple of bucks each to cause.

  5. Donation sent for wonderful cause. Also emailed the shop doing the work thanking them. Great stuff and restores a persons faith in mankind.

I remember meeting Tom Medley at a show a long time ago before I was old enough to comprehend who he was. My dad showed me his drawings and comics some of his older magazines when we got home. I bet I spent atleast the next 6 months getting in trouble at school for drawing Stroker Mcgurk all over my school note books.

If you go to the link and scroll down about half way through the page, there's a "Donate" button and an address to send checks to if you don't want to do it over the internet.

  8. Donation made from the Alliance Auction account. Thank you to everyone who has pitched in to the auction and especially here to help get Tom's coupe back into road worthy condition.

Ryan, Thanks for sharing this. I had heard about the fire, but was unaware of the rebuild project.
Like many (if not most) on here, I was inspired by Tom's artwork growing up and I am very happy to make a contribution to the effort.

A donation is the least I could do for one of the true icons in this industry.

Hot Rods & Custom stuff is handling most of the build and some major manufacturers are quietly providing parts - it's all about Tom. The build will be covered in Street Rodder magazine and on the HR&CS website.

Tom did not have insurance enough to cover all the loss and he is 91 years old. He's owned that '40 for decades. He lives a modest life since no one gets rich in the hot rod editing or cartooning game.

Even if you can't contribute, I'm sure your kind support will be appreciated by Tom and he will see this thread.

I just want to say that we had him at the Pleasanton show, and at his age, he is still a quick wit and a very funny guy. Awesome human being, and I am happy his misfortune has been turned into a good thing. He gave so much without knowing what he was helping to shape...
