Hi, anyone know what numbers on the AFB/ Edelbrock 4 bbl carbs will tell me what CFM they are? Or if thats not the way to do it, then what to look for. Thanks!
Nope ! ... the part number has no relationship to the CFM ratings. What part number do you have? Carter AFB's start with 9500 - 9700 series Edelbrock carbs start at 1400- up. Glenn
not so...on the Carter aftermarket AFB carbs, the 9625 is a 625 cfm, as are the carbs with similar numbers (9636, etc) The cfm was in the part number....but that is the exception to the normal carb numbering schemes you'll see.
The 1404 Edelbrock is a 500 cfm manual choke universal carb The Carter 9637 is a Ford replacement 625 cfm with emissions outlets. On the old 9000 series Carters 9625 GM linkage carb, 9635 GM linkage with emissions hookups 9626 Mopar linkage carb, 9636 Mopar linkage with emissions hookups 9627 Ford linkage carb, 9637 Ford linkage with emissions hookups all of the above with automatic choke. The Carter Comp. Series carbs (universal linkage carbs, all with manual choke or no choke) had a different numbering system.
Hi,Can someone tell me for sure if the Carter AFB 2651S 4 barrel carburetor is 625 CFM or not?And if not,what is the CFM?
Carter AFB 2651S is original to a 58 Chrysler 300 with a 392. Don't know of any reliable info on cfm for factory carbs.
Carter did NOT publish CFM information on most of the O.E. carburetors produced before the mid-1970's. The carburetors were flowed for A/F ratios under various vacuum values, and I have the factory flow tests, but CFM generally was not tested. One O.E. AFB that was tested for CFM was the 3636s (Pontiac) that flowed 939 CFM. As to the A/M Carters: manual/no choke 4758, 4761 - 500 CFM 4759 - 625 CFM 4760, 4762 - 750 CFM electric choke models 9400, 9410 - 400 CFM 9500, 9501, 9510, 9511 - 500 CFM 9625, 9626, 9627, 9635, 9636, 9637 - 625 CFM There are some other numbers after F/M started building clones that are marked Carter, but have not bothered to look up the specs on these.
