Features GAS PEDALS....picture thread

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Kiwi Kev, Jan 2, 2010.

  1. A few years ago I noticed I had 5 or 6 pedals on my shelf and it seemed like the start of a collection so I decided to start collecting them. I always admired guys collections of old speed parts but a wall of vintage intake manifolds was out of the question financially but gas pedals can be pretty inexpensive. I have over 50 pedals now. What amazes me is how many different ones there are. I bet there are another 50 different ones yet to discover. I thought I would start a picture thread and see what else turns up.

I break them down into 6 categories.....

1.....Speed equip' pedals... Moon, Cragar, Speed Products, Eelco etc.

2.....Boat pedals... Glenwood, Hall Craft, Nicson, Cal Marine etc.

3....Dragster pedals. These pedals are usually only seen in dragsters... CT, Chassis Research, Lyndwood, SPE, etc

    .4....Quarter midget pedals...Mantz, Evans, Ans-Craft etc.

5....Homemade pedals.I think it was very common for guys to cast pedals for shop projects in high school and sometimes it is obvious.

6....Non automotive...Drum pedals, sewing machines and other weird stuff.

Wow! Now I know where to go for wardrobe advice. You have a every style of footwear there!

  6. The Speed Equipment and Dragster pedals are my favorites. There are several I would like to find so let me know if you have any for sale.

The earliest I have found pedals advertised to hot rodders is 1953....

Not sure what year Moon pedals were first available but I would guess the mid 50's along with Cragar, Horne, and Speed Products pedals.

    Cragar catalog, 1959...

Moon is probably the most common. They offered alot of variations in their 1962 Catalog.

Picked this one up on E bay because I thought it was funny...

    Eelco made several different pedals...

This is the most common Eelco pedal...

    More Eelcos...

This no name pedal is an Ansen. It is the same as Moon without the name. The guy from Ansen told me they used to cast the Moon pedals for Dean Moon...

These SP pedals came out in the 50's...

  10. I really like these skeletal Creitz pedals. Very light weight and business like...

This one is even more light weight and more businesslike!

Here is another skeletal pedal I have. It is one of my favorite pedals but I know nothing about it. It has no markings but I am sure it is not made for the hot rodder or drag racer. It is the only pedal other than the Cragar that steps down for the heel. My guess is that it is maybe a rudder pedal for some kind of aircraft. I only say that because I can't think of anything other than aircraft where anyone would make a pedal this lightweight. Maybe these influenced early hot rodders in the military.

Dang your like the "Squirrel" of gas pedals :~)) Good thread

  20. Berry and Chung, made in New Zealand, late 60's...

Another pedal made in New Zealand is this rare Mundell and Slaughter Hi Power. They sold a complete hydraulic throttle setup in the late 50's which amazes me as I can't figure out who they sold to. Midget racers or power boats. No speed equipment being made in NZ back then. I hope some other foriegn pedals show up on this thread. Australia? UK? Canada?

Another hydraulic pedal setup made in NZ ('70's?)....

Man, You have a lot of killer stuff in your collection, Not just pedals. I'm jealous. Very nice.

  24. We can't leave out the classic bigfoot pedals. 4 toes is Eelco, 5 toes is Cal Custom but also sold under many other names.

  25. Kiwi Kev ... You win! ... Awesome collection you have ... Thanks for sharing!

My father photographed quite a lot of Speed Equipment items for late '60s Vic Hubbard Speed & Marine catalogs ... and I know he shot a bunch of GAS PEDALS (mostly Marine application) ... I'll look for them (Black & White prints) and post 'em up here if I find them.

Until then, here's the only "GAS PEDAL Pic" I have to offer:

Our coupe ran this CRAGAR pedal in the '60s thru 1975.

... and yes, I still have this pedal ... someday it will find its way back into the coupe!

Here's a Fulton gas pedal that was sold in the early 1930's.

What about some of the big rig pedals?
MACK for sure used aluminum pedals on some rigs because me and fitz were looking at one last weekend!
Had MACK cast right in it.
I think fitzee should use it in his Gasser Hillman...and I'd even run a MACK bulldog on the hood. :D
