A neighbor close to my shop has this and I wanted to exploit it's beauty a little. It's a 1929 Studebaker RV. It has a stove and sink, many of the amenities we have now, but from back in '29. He mentioned, as word had it, this particular RV was once owned by the Harvey Firestone Family. It was built by Advance Auto Body Works in Los Angeles. Painted on the side is "Dulce Domum" transalted means "Sweetly at Home" and was a song written by Robert S. Ambrose in 1876, and underneath it is "San Marino". Don't worry, more pics to come. Enjoy the beauty.

Those were known as "House Cars" in those days. As you all may know, Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, Thomas Edison and other luminaries of Industrial America, enjoyed camping together.

They did, of course, bring their household staff to handle the chores of the camp while they enjoyed napping, playing cards, fishing, and sightseeing.

Man am I diggin that one! Hope you post the backstory and more pics.
I'd love to have one like that, I grew up in Harvey Firestone's hometown
and am somewhat familiar with the camping exploits. One story has Ford,
Firestone,Edison, and Burroughs? out somewhere and ducked in somebodies
barn to get out of the rain. Soon met by the farmer with a shotgun who
for some reason didn't quite believe their story and who they were...

That is a fantastic bit of kit right there. I don't really like camping but I would camp out all the time if I owned that!

  14. Wow, traditional motorhome ;) Lots of possibilities.

Reminds me of that house car that used to be at the old Pate swap years ago---AA(?) cab with a copper sheet body on an updated chassis....anybody remember that thing? (sorry for the hijack, Mr Mott )

The amazing thing, is between the owner and myself, we know of a total of 6-7 that are out there. Also a few International's too from the early 30's.

That is an awesome land yacht. I can imagine Ken Kesey, Neal Cassady and Jack Kerouac driving cross country in that.
