Always thought the '39 looked cleaner around the front and rear, and then I found this....

The 39 Deluxe for me, had one for many years and loved the wheels, shifter, the genaral body style and the front is killer, especially the very early one.
To me the 39 has a nicer deco style to it. But both are absolutely wonderful cars made by Ford in our favorite era.

I can see by the response that both are well liked, It would be the 40 deluxe for me.I probabley built 20 or 30 AMT 40 coupe models when I was a kid.

  5. This is a cool thread, I was reading one earlier in the week that was about the differences between 1931 fords and 1932's, and I was hoping someone would do something with the 39's and the 40's. For me it's the 39 I feel the styling is simplistic, clean, and flows together nicely. Not to say I would turn my nose up at a 40 it's a great car, but the 39 always catches my eye. I also like the fact that a rumble seat was still available in 39.

  6. Love the 1939s. The floor mounted shifter, the cool head lights and tail lights. I'll get one some day. TM

When I get my second million I am gonna buy a 31-32 and 40 Ford coupe. Already have a 39 Ford.;) Then I'll sit in my lawn chair, drink beer, and try to decide which I like best !:D

Gimme another beer, I'm still thinkin!

I've got a 40 deluxe, went to a lot of trouble to get it...but I prefer the front end on a 39, the sloping headlights, the way the front of the hood lays back, it all just flows a bit nicer, and the very cool tho leaky pop out windshield...but I'm very happy with my 40 deluxe sedan.

i own a rust free unrestored`40 standard coupe, with that said, i think the `39 deluxe coupe is a much better looking car. i would describe the front end styling as elegant and the convertable coupe - to die for.

  11. My Dad and Mom brought me home from the hospital in a '40 Ford Deluxe Club Coupe in black lacquer with a rake, Navarro Heads, and an Edelbrock intake with three 97s.

Then my Dad had to trade the '40 (for a '52 Ford Fordor) because there wasn't enough room for my sister and me and our baby stuff. He still says I wrecked his life. He's just kidding...right?

I posted a thread on this car - 'Mystery 1939 Ford De Luxe Rumble Seat Coupe'. I 'borrowed' the photos from UK Russ 60 olds - thanks Russ. As I have always liked the oddball stuff, this one really spins my crank....

I'm a bit biased but I happen to REALLY like our rig....a combination of the '39 and '40. We have a '39 deluxe body and drive train (shift on floor) with '40 front and rear fenders (wide headlight cowl with chevron tail lights). Of course, it still has a flathead.

  27. Oh I love them all!!! Hahahaa.
A friend of mine just decided to sell off his collection of 39, and 40's. He has a lot of them, very nice stockers, etc. Pm me if anyone is looking, I just bought a few things and can't indulge.

  30. Good thread.
Nothing appeals to me more than a '40 Deluxe. I don't even notice a '39 unless it was about to run me over.
