So I picked up this '64 Fairlane off Craigslist in Las Vegas and had it shipped to me in Atlanta. It's a super solid, no rust car, with a bench seat, 302 & a top-loader 4spd.

My thoughts are 17x7's up front and 17x8's on the rear, and this is what I'm thinking:

While looking for wheel combos I ran across this car and like the look.

Can any Fairlane owners speak up on their tire combos?

sorry, but that is just not the style I would choose. To each his own.

Damn that looks clean leave the bling wheels in the shop. Black steelies out the back and 5 spokes on the front. Well thats what I'd do to a 64 post. Good luck with it. Man I wish we got 2 doors in Australia.

  15. I have a buddy with one of those, and he has 2001 Bullitt wheels.
They're 17" but are cheap and common.
I got a set on Ebay for $261.

    I'd go 15" Torq-thrust type myself.
I also have a set of 15" police Interceptor wheels with OEM stainless baby flippers from a Econoline.
    That might look cool.

  16. I second ThunderRocket, TT's, the big shiney ones belong in the ghetto,IMO.

14x6 all the way around. 195/14 front, 205/14 rear

  20. That root-beer fairlane looks great except for those billet big ass wheels. What an ugly mis-match that kills the whole vibe. Recommend 15" Torq thrusts. Magnum 500s would be cool too.

It's not quite to my taste, I'm a little more of a traditionalist (but not nearly so much as some of the guys around here...) I'd be shopping for a 16x8 at both ends, Vintage Wheel Works, PS Vintage, maybe some of the American Racing line. Maybe 17x8 with a 235/45-17 or 245/45-17 but I'd want to see what it looked like before I forked over the money; you might also need some fender massaging to go much over a 225/50-16 or 225/55-16.

Some would argue it's a few years too late for the car, more late-60s Trans-Am racer, but I bet it'd look great with an 8-spoke Minilite-type wheel like the Vintage 48.

I like the wheels in general but IMO there's not enough rubber 'tween rim and road; that short a sidewall will also do a number on ride quality in a car with as little rubber in the suspension as a '60s Fairlane/Falcon/Mustang/etc. I also tend to prefer wheels that have a visible drop-center in the rim. Just personal taste.

My car has 15/7 torque thrust tto's with P245 D 15'S on the rear. Had to wiz wheel about 1/4 inch of the wheel lip for fender rub. The fronts are torque thrust tto's 15/5. I use Tony Branda Shelby style flat centers all around. Hope this helps......A 225 60 hr 15 on the rear will clear with no tire rub. Hey,it's your car, put the wheels you LIKE on it! Nice rig by the way.

Always wanted a '64 Fairlane. You have a real nice one there. Don't ass it up with tuner wheels.

Well, I ran over to Summit Racing today and picked up some Wheel Vintiques 15x7's to match my 15x5's up front. Now I just need to color-match'em and see what's the biggest tire I can get in there until I get the rear setup the way I want it. :D

    Thanks for the opinions!
