The shot of Warren Gunter's Durachrome Bug was obvioulsly taken at the time he ventured back east for his summer tour. Fraught with crashes and fires, he prevailed, and eventually found himself in the big season finale at New England Draway's New England Funny Car Championships. A 16 car affair, the event hosted the best that the Eastern seaborad had to offer, along with a bevy of touring cars like Jungle Jim. In the end, the little ill handling Bug made to the finals where it got R/U to JJ.

Jr Brogdon's Phony Pony also appears to be on the barn storming circuit somewhere back east: So-Cal tracks dont normally have lush green grass lining the track. The rendition of Phony Pony car seen here was its most successful incarnation; powered by a blown fuel 289. Brogdon tried three versions: single inj 289, twin injected 289 and the verson depicted here.

For you motorcyle guys, check out the old school motocross track in the back ground. I can just hear the Ossa's and Husky's screaming

Hey, Goober!!! Nice Gremlin shot. When I was at IRP we had a guy running one in Super Pro/Gas, and I told him if he'd paint it to look like a big sneaker, I'd try to sell a sponsorship deal to Nike.

  21. Yup...at one point in time, KCIR was trying to get traffic into the track any way they could, hence the motocross track. IIRC, they also had bicycle motocross track back there AND a dirt-track oval for go-cart type cars!

  23. I really dig seeing shots of cars as they are being tested and developed, and then seeing what they ended up to be.

Craig Breedlove's Spirit II...dunno which magazine these were scanned from.

Me too. I've been thinking about that and checking the view count more and more often.

I'm fairly sure of this; but is this the biggest thread ever on the HAMB?

Any shots of the Pitman Bros blown gas Hemi powered BB/GS Gremlin? I saw it launch the blower through the windshield at the top end of Irwindale one summer. A few months later it re-surfaced and was now sporting a Rajay turbo charger
