I am from Buffalo, NY, however I am too young to remember that car. I do have the memories of my father telling me about the Clutch Artists and how that was THE club in Buffalo back in the day. They still are very present and up until recently I believe, they hosted the Autorama each year. In fact, the new Rodder's Journal talks about the Clutch Artists and another club in one of the car profiles. Some of the older guys will probably be able to step up and talk a bit more about that car.

There were some really cool cars that scream east coast in those shots. Thanks to the Norwell for sharing.

31Whitey, I knew you would chime in with your love of these type of rods.

The tire and wheel selection is pretty rad on this one.

I love how just about every photo is cropped off to the left... He must have been having a view finder problem of some sort.

That RPU "Commache" is something PETA or SPCA could use.

  13. Yep, it's our radical right-wing viewpoint. :D

Hey hey, what Jeff's doing with the cows in his neck of the woods is his business. What happens in Orangeville...

  14. Beauty of a post there Ryan.

Eh, Mr. Norwell, way to send those pics his way, too. Nice collection.

Those Canadians were kind of crazy. That red truck is pretty darn nice though. I like that. I just love seeing old vintage car photos of any sort. It is kind of amazing how much stuff there was and the kind of extensive and somewhat wacky work a lot of people did to their cars. The camo paint scheme is definitely a bit unique for a hot rod.

"Simulated pony hide"... Fetal calf hide works well for interiors as the hair is short and usually soft. Use Holstein skins and tell PETA it's fetal Panda:D!!

This one id for 31 Whitey..

This is young Ken Kay...... quite a custom painter...
I know Ken and he has quite a rep for award winning custom paint and design....now and then. This truck would tour with the Diamond deuce on the show local circuit.I have some small books with Ken's truck and mine at a Clutch Artist show(Buffalo) in the early 60's.
The Clutch artists were the shit.

Ken is also known for his Award winning bike painting........

    Thanks for this post Ryan!

    Kenny's work is outstanding!!
I think the June '61 HotRod mag has John's cousin Eric's truck in it.
Norwell, do you have any idea what I'm talking about??
I think it has the "little deuce coupe" on the cover.
Great truck, his name was Eric Christie? I think.

  26. Great pic's .......being a Piston Pusher and our club coming up on 55 years I thought I'd add a pic of the poster to the first indoor show in Ontario which was hosted by the club in 1958.

  27. Sorry the Car show was 1959......I'm getting old...lol....I always get that poster mixed up with this one from 1958 when the Piston Pushers hosted the Canadian Drag Championships at our track. Here's the cover of the program from the day.

Holy cow! I thought that thing was camo painted. Cow print? Now that IS over the top - even painted the gas tank to match. That is commitment to the idea and follow through. Don't see too many cow print paint jobs any more.
