I am assuming that is a special setup for hauling supplies to and around frozen Alaska and the Northern Territories of Canada??? Crazy looking machine.

    TJM-
Yup. Diesel-driven hydraulic drive, articulated bed, 8 wheel drive. The drive system is a trip. You can see how the tires are located by large trailing arms- but there are no springs, just hydraulic shocks. The tires aren't directly driven, they 'float' on the drivers which are the small round rollers on top of the tire. The drive rollers spin backwards, spinning the tire forwards. The tires run at atmospheric pressure, so their deflection on the hydraulic drive rollers is the spring. I forget what the payload capacity on these are but they can easily haul a 966 loader. With the hydraulic drive to all 8 wheels and the articulated bed and the 3 feet or so of deflection in the trailing arm and the foot or more deflection in the tires it sort of feels like riding on a boat.

Your engine is a Henderson motorcycle engine, V-Twin. It was originally a Thor engine but was changed shortly after it was built due to the original engine being run too lean after the carb iced up.

If this is your first time in this thread, go back a few pages and read up on the "snow cruiser" it's one of the coolest and wackiest things I'd never heard of.

Here's another one (along with the ebay link it came from)

  29. Funny how this old thread popped back up with the first real snow storm of the season.
We might even see some in the mountains in North Georgia tonight.
