I spotted this car along the highway. It looks like the frame could be old Ford and it appears to have an ohv V-8 under the hood. Thinking maybe an old Mechanix Illustrated special? Weird but cool!

Looks like one of those early 50's made in the back yard sports cars that used to show up in Mechanics Illustrated every so often. The wheels, chassis and engine if there is one may be more interesting than the car is.

It definately was built from plans of the old Mechanic Illustrated. A mechanic in North English, IA had built one like like it back in the fiftys. His son now owns that one and had restored it a few years ago. Most were built on old ford chassis.

Strange, but kind of cool. Would like to know whats under the hood for power, Caddy, Olds, Pont?? Old caddy would be my guess.

I saw this car (almost directly behind) Lakemont Park in Altoona about 5-6 years ago.
It seems to get around a bit?

Yeah, well it may not be everyone's cup o' tea, but at least it looks driveable.

No friggin' "layin' frame", "in the weeds", airbagged minitrucker bullshit!

Back and side are not the worst I've seen, but how to fix that front view. I've got an old Case tractor grille layin' up in the weeds which might do the trick.

If those caps have a non-Ford looking "V8" logo cast in the center, I have 2 here.

The knockoff-looking hubcaps are awesome. If the frame is Ford and is early enough (32-34 era) it could be worth the price of the car just for the frame/drivetrain.

I'm not fond of the body, but it does have some neat stuff on it, the windshield frame looks decent and so do the gauges. If this was cheap enough, it'd be worth getting and putting a different body on it.

Zerk , thanks for posting the info .It is cool someone took the time to chase down parts and build it. There used to be something similar in a town south of me . It was made out of a 46 Ford fenders, hood ,and a v8 60 for power. I saw it at Chicasha swap meet this spring .
