My high school library had a copy of that book. I can't remember how many times I signed it out. :)

Awesome Skywolf and Doug. Mutley didnt ya have a decal I think.

American drag racing legend Mickey Thompson (1928 - 1988) is obscured by a cloud of his own smoke as he speeds his 1,000 bhp Ford-powered dragster to a then-record-for-Europe standing quarter-mile (8.84 seconds or 178 mph), Debden RAF Station, Essex, England, January 13, 1964

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - FEBRUARY 17, 1963: Paul Goldsmith (No. 50) drove this Ray Nichels Pontiac Tempest in the Daytona Continental 3-Hour race (a predecessor to the Rolex 24 of later years). Billy Krause is outside in the Mickey Thompson Corvette Sting Ray

Without doubt, the absolute Ultimate Hot Rodder! The list of men that even come close can be counted on one hand. I've heard and read about Mickey building and racing pretty much every facet of Motorsports, managing Lions Drag Strip and then Fontana, working the nightshift at the LA Times, owning the Speed Equipment manufacturing business, having Chevrolet, Pontiac and Ford giving him their best equipment to make the most of. This man did it all and I really don't even know how he found time to even sleep!

Four famous streamliners of the past at the "World's Fastest Indian" movie set. Left to Right...Bill Burke's "Pumpkin Seed", Hammon, Whipp & McGrath's "Redhead", Mickey Thompson's "Challenger" & Dr. Ostich's "Flying Caduceus".
The Pumpkin Seed and the Challenger were restored by Jim Travis, who presently races the Pumpkin Seed, which is owned by Mickey Thompson's son.

One of the greats. Glad his murder got convicted. But sometimes justice just isn't enough.

    Hello Richard!
Been so busy on the home front,
this is the first I’ve read of this

    scintillating thread.
Here are a couple Bonneville pics
that Mickey personally gave fellow racer/wrencher
    Bob Bowen.
You can read about their history together
    on my thread titled
    “The Wolf Pack”,

A different calibre driver than today…

By far a Great gentleman. In my youth at the begining of my off road desert racing career I had the pleasure to meet Mickey. I purchased some racing parts from him out of his Wilmington California facility. What an awesome experience when walking into his facility, to see all of his cars there, the Challenger, Danny's funny car and even some Indy cars, wow I will always remember how Mickey was so kind to me and interested in what we were racing down at the Baja 1000.

I did not know him, but my neighbor was counted among his friends. Glad they finally caught the guy who did this...someone needs to put some M/T sportsmans on their car and do a massive burnout on this pukes head! We will just call it Karma!
