You may remember when Ryan posted this:

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/?p=16215

It's an episode in a series on people who make things by hand. The film maker, Jon Walley, put out there that he was interested in interviewing someone who was involved in hot rods to include in his series. He and I started talking, and I agreed to work with him.

    Some disclaimers:

I don't like being the center of attention, so I hope what I say in this film takes the attention off me and puts it where it belongs, which is just about anywhere else.

There are many people who are way more worthy of having a movie made about their talents. But I think this gets to the "why" a lot of us go to the garage. This is less about the 'product' made by hand, but more about the impetus behind it. Some sort of inspiration gets us there. A person, a time, a place, something or someone drives us to do what we love to do. I hope that is the message conveyed.

With that said, I had a really good time making this with Jon. The behind the scenes shenanigans were lots of fun. And I think that this piece completes Jon's goals that he set out to accomplish with American Hand. He thinks so anyway. So yeah. With some fear and trepidation, I give you American Hand Part III:

I loved it!! You don't look 43 at all, dude. You look half your age.

Real cool shop too. Do you have a corner dedicated to your printmaking or is that in another room in the house?

printmaking studio is upstairs from the shop. the shop is 40x60 with a truss style roof, and the studio is 16x60 on the second floor. it's pretty good space, but there isn't enough light. gotta work on that soon.

and thanks, it's my baby fat that keeps me looking young.

I thoroughly enjoyed that Mark. My signature... "the world is a better place looking through the windshield of an old car" is so true for me. Nothing else I do can change my mood and clear my head better than taking one of my cars (old) out for a drive.
I never thought about how much I enjoy the noise and smells of these rides until watching the video. Thanks Man.

  16. We get it Mark.

While there are differing opinions on what it means to be rich, you my friend are living a rich life.

    Good on you and Becky.

Avoid your local Vagabonds. They might even show up on your TV. ;)

  24. That was great, I really liked it. On a side note, that early image of the "spent" sand paper discs hit home as of late. My sander, which I used today, has all of it's "loops" worn off. The paper would no longer stay attached. Being cheap, and having some spray addhesive already "in stock", I lightly coated the disc and the pad. Works freekin' awesome! I thought about entering that idea in "tech week"( ha ha ). Again, very cool video......

Excellent job guys! Mark you did an outstanding job explaining the connection we have to these old cars. You will make a terrific teacher.
