I agree with you. Not feeling that one at all. Looks confused. I see four or five different "make" influences in that and it just doesn't flow.
Hey Ryan, darn if you don't know how to stir up memories!! The only one I ever saw in the flesh(so to speak) was powered by a 389 Poncho w/ 3 deuces. At the time I had a 68 Goat and thought that it was one of the neatest cars I'd ever seen. "Kit car" never entered my mind. Who care when they're done right! Do you have any drag versions in your picture archives. I can think of at least a couple that you were both cool and mighty quick. Just asking, Cat
When I was growing up,we use to think a kit car like a Kellison or Devlin was about as close as you were gonna get to an upper end piece. They helped keep the dream alive.
I had never heard about the Kellison kit cars before. I probably saw one, but didn't know what it was. So I had to go learn more. Found this site-http://www.kellisoncars.com/ Tons of pics and a few for sale! Hmmmm....
Intermeccanica Italia Italian style... American V8 power. Fewer than 700 built. I think that makes it a hot rod!
Some more italian style, american power.. Bizzarrini 5300.. as in 5.3 / 327 corvette engine Iso Griffo and Iso rivolta also used chevy v8s 327s and 427s
good one. That Bizzarrini is better looking than any Ferrari, imo. I read an article about them and if i remember correctly it was designed by a kid in his early 20's, who was later hired to design for Ferrari. What a good looking car.
Mmmmmm....Bizzarrini....... An "aquaintance" has an Avenger? Late 60's kitcar I beleive. Not quite as SEXY as a Kellison, but it is runnin' a mid engine 327....
Europeans knew how to make a proper upscale hot rod interior, too. Check out those dashboard shots, the matching luggage, and the flip open rear window! And, wait ... it that really a 30s vintage sun roof?!
From the engine compartment of the same car ... A triple-carb'ed inline 6 cylinder hemi with one of the sexiest cast exhaust manifolds I have ever seen.
And speaking of engine bays, is this one not begging to be taken out and treated like the naughty little girl that she is?
The late Nolan White ran one on the salt in the 1960's.http://kitcar.automotive.com/73474/0505kc-kellison-kit-cars/astra-x-300gt.html
yeah hot rods should have matching luggage.. come on.. they should have gps now too right? come on this is a very cool thread but let's not start drawing similarities between Italian sports cars and American Hot rods.. I doubt anyone went to the dry lakes or the local straight-stretch worrying about the luggage that came with their ride...
Giotto Bizzarini designed for Ferrari BEFORE the cars with his own name. He did the body styling & chassis design on the '62 GTO ( the car in Shmooso's post above). If you get a chance check out the 327 Bizzarinis. Unreal package and a real fast monster. We got a real fine yellow one here in Qld. which does the Classic Adelaide with a lotta style. He- man car for sure- Cobra style.
Italian style was out there in many ways regardless of the country of origin. Frua designed some pretty sexy cars. Guigario's designs were like classic art. The Ghibli berlinetta was outstanding and a cornerstone for nearly everyone thereafter. The Pantera spawned from it's mother the Mangusta. AC had a Frua designed car at the end of the Cobra run. It too is a sexy bitch. From Switzerland, the Italian bodied Monteverdi with a 440 mopar for power (the 6 pack was also available) nailed the look but the HAI was like bloodlust. A NASCAR hemi was used in a mid-engine design and was rumored to be capable of near 200mph well before the days of "federalized" cars. I've only seen pictures of those. It made sense to follow up with cars like the Kellison, Devin, etc. Sportscars were near the top of the auto food chain. Grand Prix drivers were as much household names as NASCAR drivers today. I found a pic of a HAI. Can you imagine driving this thing with a 426 HEMI right up behind ya? Holy shit...
