Isn't Ford doing something like this now where the car parallel parks itself? This is way cooler.

  9. It's only cool if it's a bias ply...or so I've been told. I think maybe it would have a NASCAR application, for when the winner does that doughnut thingie.

I gotta say that's the toughest part of doing these posts... Finding something to cover that hasn't already been on the HAMB!!!

Ok, so some people have seen this before and some haven't. I hadn't. But now I'm really curious how this works. The spare doesn't simply fall. It actually lifts the weight of the rear of the car. Not knocking the HAMB, but it is amazing how many different answers you can get for the same question. Let's hear them.

  18. I know, I cant count the number of times I was getting ready to send a link to Ryan and I see he has posted on it already!

That's pretty cool but you would still have to be mindful of the distance between the car in front and behind. Because as you pivoted your car you would actually take up more space corner to corner. Simple geometry!

Yeah I was thinking a PTO on the trans, but what are the details, an actuator to lower the tire and a hydrulic motor to turn the tire? How would the actuator be mounted with the rear axle in the way, straight up and down, aft the differential?

  22. I just thought of an improvement.....drop down Continental kit.

Would you put something like an electronic trailer brake on that wheel or would you plumb that into the rear brake lines?

When I was a kid in Hollywood, CA, I saw tis demo at the Clarence Dixon Cadillac Dealer. It was quite a sight and I was told it cost more to install the device than the car had cost. So much for luxury.

Haha, after owning 50's cars, I don't think the engineers worried too much about those concerns! Style before function.

Probably why older cars actually had style...

    that one it brilliant !
I want on of those for parking in the city in traffic ! That would make parking do damn much easier than anything I have seen yet . Just nose the car in the spot , press a button , down comes the hydraulics with a wheel on it perfectly centered in the rear of the car then press the next button to make the rear end of the car roll perfectly into the parking space .
I just gotta have one !

  27. I like the fact all the cars parked around it are also Caddy's...

  28. i thought that parking problems were a new problem ..
.there is hardly room for that length of car to parallell park now .....

Yeah, I Deleted at least 5 of those...

Must have been on Jalopnic, or something.

On the parking thing itself, it looks like it will only one way.

    To the left.

( the 5th wheel rotates in the same direction as the engine )

So you can get the car out of a parkingspot, but not in...
