I dug the Ford at Fifty book out of my stash last night. Really cool book that I have pretty much overlooked for years. Great post - I love(d) those tubes at the bank too.

Here's a postcard of the El Rancho. It would make a great backdrop for photographing cars. Does anyone know if it still exists?[IMG]

    Hemi32,

I see that I was a little too slow on the draw. Thanks for that update.

Rolleiflex, I was thinking the same thing!
I moved to Sacramento about 6 years ago and don't know all the landmarks past and present. It would be cool to take my 50 Ford and take some pictures in the same spots as the pictures in the brochure. I am guessing the hamburger place is gone, like all the others have, but what about the palm reader, or the drive thru bank. I will have to search out the book return.
Could be fun, sorta like a treasure hunt.

    Jay,
I posted before that I've had copy of Ford at Fifty since new. I always liked the map on the inside covers, too; did you notice that it was done by Boris Artzybasheff? Boris was a super-realistic illustrator who did a lot of Time magazine covers, and had a wonderful style of "anthropomorphic" illustration of machines:
