The shot is of a quality one might have found in the pages of Life Magazine. That face mask is the very type Tony Nancy was making out of the remnents left over from an upholstery job.

Irwindale was a fun place to race, especially when Steve Gibbs managed it, everyone was treated fairly, the pits were paved, and the shutdown area was long enough, much better than Lions or San Fernando. I raced there many times and really loved the place. and although In-and-Out was great, a beer and a burger at the Stein right out the gate was memorable.

I think I posted a poor quality version of this about a year ago, maybe not...

This was shot by master drag photographer Jere Alhadeff. Its the L.A. Dart driven by Bill Shrewsberry. This was at Keith Black's engine shop, I believe in South Gate, just off the Long Beach Freeway.
The guys in the suits in the background were Chrysler big-wigs here for an open house at Black's shop. One of the "suits" asked Shrewsberry "whats this thing do?". Bill asked the guy if he wanted to go for a ride up the street, and the guys said "sure".
Jere took this photo as Shrewsberry pulled the wheels up in front of the shop, all the while, the "suit" from Chrysler was holding on to the roll cage no longer wondering..."whats this thing do?"...:D

  11. Mazooma1, you mention photo guru Jere Alhadeff.. I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times while i was at Hot VWs Magazine... his longtime companion, Linda Dunsworth, worked there as the Office Manager, and he contributed to Hot VWs from time to time, as well.
I always hoped I would someday be 1/4 the photographer Jere was.... and I never was.

Awesome thread. Thanks. Here's my contribution of my Grandpa's car(s). Mr. Wood was the car. Bob Hickman was my grandpa. He was from Riverside and race the west coast primarily.

OK, I looked through all 700 plus pages, tried the search function, to no avail. Does anyone have any pics of the Rod Shop 71 Coronet wagon? And yes, I've searched the Coronet forums, Dodge, Mopar, and Wagon forums. I've only been able to find a few pics of it from back in the day. I've seen current pics of the car, but I'd really like to see some pics that aren't currently on the web.

Try searching "Boertman wagon", since it was owned/driven by Judy Boertman. I know I've seen some pics of it here that I've never seen before, especially since the Boertmans' daughter has posted stuff here.

Go onto the main HAMB page and use the search function there.
