That is a sweet car. I hope he takes the time to post pics of the car thru the restoration.

I am so sick of all these Rat's with their Iron Cross every where!!!!

Just kidding, you know I am a sucker for european sports cars and these early Porches are some of the best. I will own a 356 some day, and finding this one would have been a dream come true. Mr. Jeffries is becoming a compelling figure for me and definitely someone I want to learn more about. Cool post!

  5. This is such a cool story. I had no idea about that Porsche, but then again, I haven't followed Jeffries's work that closely, instead looking at Apollos and similar Europeanesque cars. I hope that Karrera will show some other in progress pics and keep us involved.

    Cool car.

  6. I have been aware of this car for years, but I had no idea it had a Carrera motor in it. That is amazing, great bit of history Ryan.

Great story! Glad to see the car is in good hands. It's a really restrained and tasteful treatment on a classic sports car!

I was in high school when I read about this car. The magazine article described the paint as containing "imported crushed fishscales" which cost an unbelievable $100 per gallon!!

Very smooth looking car but I'm not really diggin the placement of those Lucas lights. They seem to be sticking out, anteaterish. I would've liked to see them closer together. In the valley next to the chin. Sort of like this car....

That car has "provedance" and "history"...

Glad jeffries got it back...while the story doesnt rank up there with recovering it in front of a pron store it still is wicked cool....I like it just like it is....

Ha ha. I was a fourteen year old when I saw it on the R & C cover in '58; I had never even heard of a Porsche. Looking back, it was certainly daring for that time (as was the Mantaray, 10-12 years later).

I, too, love this car. I remember the first time I saw an image of it, I was lukewarm, but it's definitely grown on me!

Legally speaking, how did the present owner acquire this car, considering it's shady past?

I love the 356 and a Carerra man! Never seen that one before. That car looked so weird at first but it is growing on me.

Work is progressing on the restoration - doors are repaired and the fenders are back to contour - nose and hood should be done in two weeks.

And in the finest HAMB tradition the final smoothing of the bodywork will be done in lead as it was first done back in 1957 - no bondo in this baby.

Latest pics of the Dean Jeffries Porsche restoration - all bodywork is done and the undercoating is on - It will be coming off the rotisserie for final priming and blocking prior to the application of a custom blended Glasurit silver pearlescent paint. Dean personally selected the paint color and BASF is donating the paint for the project.
