Actually the Marines did not get to Tripoli, they got to a village south of Tripoli and thought it was Tripoli, and there were only 9 of them, other troops were local mercenaries.....See Michael Oren's "Power, Faith, and Fantasy."

( I was in the Navy too, but hauled a lot of Marines to war, have lots of respect for them, but....)

Georgetown, SC in what is now the historical district. The Rice Museum and the Strand Theater are still there.

  12. Yes, he was a big blowhard society politician to begin with but the Rough Rider campaign changed him. Get a copy of the DVD "Rough Riders" starring Tom Berenger, Sam Elliott and Gary Busey for a great movie and insight to this.

It's a Willys Aero - the taillight and the four-lug wheels ID it.

This photo was taken in my town of Chillicothe, Ohio in February, 1940. This auto transport is driving west on East Main St. (also U.S. Rt. 50). The tall building at the left is currently a bank.

  17. Thanks for that picture. I spent many years in that exact part of the terminal. Was Curtiss Truck Repair, this is in 1978 with my ,at that time, tow truck. Love that building!-MIKE

I don't know the make of this car, but they must have been very well made. That's one hell of a trunk lid. Gary

That is the Central Terminal in Buffalo, NY.
Now empty as railroad travel is almost completely obsolete, there has been a lot of restoration going on, but it is a long and slow process.

Super rare car that, 1950 Aston Martin DB2 Drophead of which only 49 were built! Quite unique for the time, all aluminium body, multi tube chassis and a 2.6-liter, 6 cylinder, twin cam, twin carburetor, 105 horsepower Lagonda engine.

    Doc.

How much do those Airstream trailers weigh? Looks big for that T-bird.

That DB2 shot is from Hitchcock's 'The Birds' as you probably know.
