Would You Be Caught Dead in A Hurse?

While I was out scrounging yesterday I came across a circa 1949/50 Pontiac hurse, complete with straight-eight engine. It was cool-looking as hell with the snow about mid-wheel deep all around it! It was kind of like a Mother- Nature photoshop lowering job since I could see how really cool it would be if lowered. And it was so dang lo-o-o-ng!

The Pontiac looked to be pretty complete with about 55 years of typical road rash, and I was really tempted to ask if it was for sale, but I couldn't help wondering if any self-respecting rodder wouldn't be caught dead in one.

Any opinions on the carma aspects of rodding a hurse:?"?? I mean would the heebeegeebees outway the coolness????

Hell Yes! hurses are Bitchen costomized. Back in the day some of my friends
had them one Caddy painted yello and a black Packard with (The Body Snachers, Ratfink) mural on the sides. both were droped to about 4 inches from the ground. Go for it. Pogo

Some friends of mine have a Band and use a late 50's Cadillac Hearse to haul their stuff to gigs. They haven't mentioned any ghosts floating around in the thing....

I have a 65 Caddy landau and it is one great ride. Hearses are rare there was only 156 made of my body style and figuring in the options mine has (endloader with the sucide rear doors,Crown Royale trim option) it is probably one of about 20 or so. These cars was pretty much hand made. The 429 in mine has developed a rod knock so that is why I have not driven it much in the last couple of years and I do not have a shop long enough to work on it being over 22 feet long these things are huge.
I have a 73 472 rattholed away and a Latham Supercharger that is going to be put in it. Dude buy the Pontiac if it is complete.
BTW It is also complete with a casket in the rear. Dead people dont scare me. But a lot of living people do.

I used to deliver body parts in a 70 Olds 98 hearse, autobody parts that is. I always teased my wife(girlfriend at the time)that I would pick her up from school in it. She wasn't too fond of the idea, I have no clue why:D. later shawn

DONT THINK you can get to many bitches into the back though.but not all ghosts are bad so who knows might make a new friend.

Re: Would You Be Caught Dead in A Hurse?

Folks think sedan deliveries are cool, so why wouldn't they think the same sbout a hearse (proper spelling)?

As a matter of fact, a lot of the economy funeral homes would use a sedan delivery instead of a hearse because they couldn't afford the real deal.

I remember about 25 years ago turning down an opportunity to buy a rust free, 20,000 mile original black '55 Chev sedan delivery that was used for that purpose. Still had the little rollers mounted in the back to slide the casket in and out.

The hearses always seem a little to bulbus in the rear to me if I was gonna do one I'd chop it or just convert a delivery into one and save some time and effort. It also depends on the year and brand though Ive seen a early 50's poncho one that was right on and a 59 buick one that could of been the shit simply because they are already evel to begin with.

My aunt once told me about these two guys in her high school back in the day (Late 60s early 70s) that got a hearse and had it all fixed up.

They had a coffin in back that they would put the kegs in and then they ran plumbing so the taps were where the radio knobs normally were. Thent hey had a home stereo wired up in back as well and they would take it out to the parties.

Good old redneck ingenuity.

Somebody around Detroit has a hearse jacked up on big monster truck tires. Belongs to some shop. Very menacing.

Hurst hearse. That's good.
