Last night, a member on the forums brought up an old article that I wrote on Kellison sports cars. As a result, I wound up re-reading the piece, studying the accompanying gallery, and finding myself i...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
It's utterly killer, the Caddy bullet grille is stunning. The whole car's design is well thought out.
He did a great job with that, the car has great visual balance and looks positively evil! I want one...........
1959 Ferrari Testarossa. I believe that one is owned by Ralph Lauren. ..... And yeah, that Cad grille is pretty genius.
I am a total sucker for Italian sports cars. I do not know a ton about the Kellison kit cars and really only read a few things on them. I do know however that what I have read on them has prompted me to search on eBay every once in a while looking for one. Love them!!! I think the one above is pretty cool but I think it's a bit too much and not enough at the same time. First of all, the powerplant is a weak choice is far as shooting for a Ferrari feel. The chrome wire wheels with think line whites just shows that he was not shooting for a Ferrari only but more influenced by the time as well. Paint that car black with some purposeful wheels and throw in a 331 Chrysler with a inline four carb intake mated to a 5spd out of a indy car and then you'll have something really moving. Perhaps Kinmont brake setup or something indy inspired too all on a chassis based upon Kurtis type cars maybe using a torsion bar setup and I think your are starting to reach closer towards the sophistication that a real deal Ferrari holds. Definitely a start though!!!
Lauren's collection of vehicles is simply amazing, he is a true automotive fanatic! If I recall they had a special about his collection on TV not too long ago.
Might I ass a scoop like on that '59 Testerossa showing off the four '97's on top of the Chrysler???? I am getting excited.
Not his, but interesting you mention that. Not to hijack this great thread, but there was a show on TV recently documenting his car collection, the cars were being exhibited at the Boston museum of fine art (Speed, Style, and Beauty). He has a magnificent collection of some of the most iconic sports cars ever built, including; 29 Blower Bentley 30 Mercedes SSK 62 Ferrari 250 GTO 37 Bugatti drophead coupe 54 Ferrari 375 Plus 55 Mercedes gullwing 55 Jaguar XKD 55 Porsche spyder
I'm a sucker for H-mod class italian stuff. 750cc or less screamin like wildcat :bc: bandini's make me horny! notice how tall the car is compared to the gentleman standing behind it! not only are these cool cars, but many of them ran crosley engines
I will build a Kellison or something in that same vein one day. My list is short, and that is at the top.
Seeing as how I'm wearing Ralph Lauren boxers and cologne I should have an itty bitty share in his car collection.
since you brought up the Kellison... i scoped this at our annual "Graffitti Weekend" show 'n' shine.. it definately stood out.. the lines on these are just a thing of beauty..
That's a kickass car.....but I wonder how it is to drive? Looks like a bitch to see out of and uncomfortable for us taller guys.... The roofline reminds me of my favorite Ferrari model....only chopped. haha.
/hijack I was talking to a guy at Pebble Beach this year, and after a couple of minutes, he said he was one of 2 full time caretakers for RL's collection. 'You mean you get to drive, wrench-on, and take his cars to shows all over the world?' Yes, was the answer. He sorta looked down, like it wasn't quite all momma had expected from him. I suggested that there were a lot of out here who, if we had known, would have made some very different life choices, and would love to do what he does. Saw RL later - yellow turleneck and sweater and red shorts. not sure how he made his $$, but my wife will tell ya' that even I know you don't wear yellow and red together. Got to see one of my favorite Bentleys ever, in person.
T-Bird motor...that's because they were intended for T-bird frames. At least initially. WHo's really serious about one? There was one to be had "...I'll make you a good deal on it..." was all I was told price-wise and the people are quite reputable. Zakira in or near Cincinnati, OH. They specialize in exotics and they wer doing a Miller in there as well (ok Ryan go ahead and cry, it's probably still there).
I think that's a joke aimed at what he was wearing that day. You know those creative types. They like to mix it up. Lauren started with nothing but a good family. They had no money. He built his own financial empire. None of this has anything to do with Kellisons though.
A little O.T. but any time the Prancing Pony comes up I recommend to the hard core fanatic to go out and purchase: Ferrari Catalogue Raisonne, Automobilia Opera Omnia - Ferrari History. Make sure you get the three book set. This is the greatest compelation to date of the history of Ferrari in both racing and public sales. I own one and it has been my greatest read and resource when getting my Ferrari fix.
No prob! Just note they can get spendy. There is the original three book set that covers 1946 to 1990. There is a new book that covers everything from 1990 to 1995 and I am sure there will be another release covering 1995 to current.
Not Kellison, but another Ferrari inspired car from a later era. This one has a ferrari v-12 Now, inspired they might be, but I don't think either of these cars really hit the mark. I think both are kinda awkward looking.
