unknown AM/FR but I know it's been here before but my brain is vaporlocked.
EDIT: from 296ardun .....it is Bill Traylor's Bantam-bodied "Animal" competition coupe, aluminum chassis, bodywork and paint by Dave Stuckey. Bill was from Kansas (I think) and towed out to the west coast to break most of the track records for fuel competition coupe.

Nice pics. Pedregon's car was a Competition Coupe. There is a thread on here featuring them.

Great pictures! The Unknown A/FR San Gabriel Drag Strip 1962 is Lefty Mudersbach in the Warden and Cole roadster that Lefty built. I think that the picture you captioned "Zuechel, Moody, Fuller dragster Bakersfield 1963" is actually Zeuschel, Fuller, and Prudhomme, at the '62 March meet...anyone else?

I have an anti drag strip/drag racer article from the May 12, 1962 Saturday Evening Post. Pretty interesting read. Do you guys think it'd be ok to post it on this thread? It is technically off topic but still relevant to this thread, IMO.

I don't think Don drove that car too long before going to the ' GBP ' car, then they got Moody as the driver

I believe it the 62' meet they won when it was brand new with Don at the wheel

I must be a couple years younger than you as I was just starting my interest in drag Racing in 1963 and on the east coast we never got to see the west coast cars except in Hot Rod. Good thing we have your expert good memory here on the HAMB to keep this history alive.

 

Yes, say I at least. I remember it well, fired off a nasty letter to the Saturday Evening Post, which they did not publish, but they did publish a letter defending drag racing from J. Neal East, who was at NHRA then, I think.

Sorry if this is a repeat pic on this thread. Dang if I didn't stare at the Dragmaster chassis for long enough to want to see more. This is a time travelers' dream! No wonder several guys would pool resources to build a drag car. Back in the 60's 7 grand was a Cadillac. Who do I make the check out to? It's gotta have the Poncho Hemi.
