Im working pretty hard now on a 28-29 roadster build. Brookville body with an original 32 v8 frame. I pinched the front and rear of the frame yesterday and almost finished up the boxing job today. I pinched the front 1 1/2" on each side. Boxing with ASC plates that I already had. I mocked up a 40 Ford X member tonight. Hoping to use it. I ve been planning on running a 260 SBF that Ive already built, but Im still considering a 292 Y that I have also. Ill post pics ASAP.
Assembling a dropped 40 axle with 40 spindles, F100 brakes, F1 steering box, and posies spring. Running 16x3.5" fronts on 450-475-16 tires and 14x4.5" rears on 700-16s. Restoring banjo wheel as well
Glad I got a Brooville body, because Ive spent 4 days doing body work on 4 Merc hubcaps. The one in the pic is finished. I do ceramic coatings in my shop and this cap is done in KG Industries gun kote. Stainless steel with black, red and brass accents.
Ha! Jerks used to file into my shop in numbers, '76, "What'cha doin' that for?" I must have pinched '32 rails 'til I drew blood... Nothing on the charts makes a nicer fit, time spent here is golden later on. One piece look, like it 'grew there'... I'd get a sculpted fit, then the honiocks would paint the frame and body different colors, like a 'Goodguise Tutone'! That's what I called it... (I call 'em like I see 'em) Polite mode: "After careful blending of the two, I saw it necessary to enhance the fit with common colors..." (making mouth as 'small as I can')
True Mike. Its soooo much nicer looking now sitting on the frame. If it was a 30/31 i could live without it, but not on the 29
Deciding on this super cool SW panel or going with a 42 merc dash. I already have a speedo for the merc redone by Williamsons Instruments in Chester Arkansas. Top notch work from them!!
Do u have any frame diagrams for where you pinched the rails? I'm working on the same set up. I have the wescott diagram for where to pinch it in the rear but find no info on pinching it in the front
Macy, I actually put my body on my lift and rolled my frame underneath to mock up. I spot welded the frame to a rolling structure that I built to help hold the frame in place while I welded on it. I just decided where I wanted the body to be positioned on the frame and marked the places where the frame needed to be altered to follow the body lines. I made cuts into the top and bottom of the frame in these places, and used ratchet binder to pull in the frame. I would cut the spot welds holding the frame to the table as I went. Worked pretty well.
Ok cool I'm actually doing it the complete opposite way haha. I have my body spot welded to a frame table. I'd love to see pics of where the rear cross member sits if u have any tho. Thanks
Just my 2 cents.....but why gather all those rad early parts, achieve the "look" just to screw it up with a modern motor? Even though it's a 60s motor, it isn't vintage enough to roll with that car. Just sayin. Go y block atleast. Really, I would save the money to go flathead or even 331 caddy. That's what I'm doing, gonna add extra time to my build because a good flatty isn't cheap or plentiful, BUT it's going to be a rad payoff..... your car do as you like, just throwing it out there. By the way, great looking build.
Hot Rod porn! Love it. I like a SBF in an A roadster, that is what I built. It fits better into an A with 32 frame. Still may have to scoot radiator up or cut firewall?
