Next I painted & Fitted up the 32 drop axle I purchased from Big Al
Removed some leaves from the spring pack and had the eyes reversed to the front and rear spring.
Paid top dollar for a pair of front hubs and drums so I could keep the ball moving replaced the shackles so I could sitting her on the ground. Then asked Dirty (fool) Fuel to come past and help me drop the engine & box in.

Then more drama the spring eyes just about touch the axle with the weight of the engine in ,so out with the spring pack again and have the main leaf shortened.

Looks fantastic, very well done. It is very clearly a hot rod now, although none of the things that made it such a nice restoration were lost in the build, it's just right.

Just a suggestion. I haven't installed mine, so can't exactly vouch for the sound. No doubt some one else will chime in. Established in 1931 according to their website

Second the Porters, they just sound right, deep and not too raspy like glass packs. I've run them on pretty much everything I built.

The Smitty's I have on my '39 sound good too, but are a bit loud and get a little old after miles of highway speeds. There'e getting replaced with Porters too as soon as I get around to it.

x2 on porters have amellow sound but don't rattle your ears. beautiful car by the way

  23. Guys -- Thanks for the reviews of Porters based upon real-life experience. I was thinking about Smitty's for mine, but now I'm leaning toward the Porters. They're a bit pricey, but then when you're building a car, what isn't?

Thanks guys looking like Porters is the way to go.
Hopefully someone in Australia stocks them????
But it's looking like another costly shipping bill
