Hot Rods LETS SEE YOUR RACE CARS THAT ALSO DO THE STREET!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by mad mikey, Nov 29, 2015.

  1. Before I restored it to it's original 1960's-70's race build condition, my Anglia was a street driven race car, regularly seen in San Diego in the 80's and 90's. It was flat black and ran Hooiser D.O.T. quick times with some small Flowmasters. it would run mid 9's in that configuration and was street raced a fair amount as well. No front brakes or wipers (Hey this is So Cal) but it had full lights, horn, etc.

  2. falcongeorge....Yes it has a heavy flywheel (and balancer). Everything up front is pretty light so with the long ladder bars and a little engine set back she really jumps when you dump the clutch. It never made a full clean 1/4 mile pass with the 283 so no times to report. When I got the 355 short block in a trade it had 13-1 pistons and I didn't want that for the street so I replaced them with a set of forged flat tops. I don't have a clue what the compression is but not too high. I only ever run pump gas and it never pings.

"No rain, and no snow driven in." Man, you've got nothing on me. I drive in both, in my roadster (the one Beaner put up a pic of).

"I'm usually banging gears and driving it like I stole it "
I can give a witness to that!

man, I don't even drive my daily driver truck in the snow! But we usually only have maybe 6-7 days of snow here in the winter, and its usually kind of spaced out.
Don, there used to be a guy up here from Mission that used to show up at our local street races with a red primered Anglia with a 375hp 396 and a glide, backed up with 5.13's, ran high tens. There were several guys from Mission that would come out to Maple Ridge, some of them were damned fast. I remember a 4 speed tunnel ram BB silver blue Camaro that was faster than the Anglia, and another guy (Jim something??? any ideas Fedman?) that had a black '64/'65 Chevelle with Fenton aluminum slots, a 283 with a Porto-Sonic, 292 Turbos and a stick and 5.38's that was well in the 11's, pretty damn fast for a single 4 bbl 283 3400lb street car. But I am reminiscing and wandering off-topic...

The Power paks are like 58-60 cc's even if you have flat-tops, its probably pushing 11/1. Not that that would be a problem on pump gas with a decent sized cam, a steep gear and a light car.
Are you still running the XC-8? I have a XF-8 for a 289 4-speed t-bucket project I will hopefully get to some day.

  6. Like @Tony - I have a hard time posting on this thread because my car hasn't yet been down the 1320. I built it as a street car that would see occasional track time. My first order of business was to get comfortable with how the car behaves on the street. With 1000+ trouble free miles this past summer, I'm looking forward to next year. While I was placing it on the "winter" jack stands, I couldn't help but pull a faux wheelie.;)

Hope to build the new engine this winter. Gone 11.72/112 with the old 430 Buick. Hoping for some 10's with the new 464. Few shots from the last 8 years after it sat totaled in my garage for 10 years.

  12. Yep- MY WORDS. Yes- parked outside of work in the rain, driven in the rain with no wipers, and a lil wide tires out back....Sorry bud- we don't get too much snow out here,so I guess I have nothing on you. Not like I would want to anyways..........
But if you would think that you could handle things/and if I still had it=25 years worth, I would be glad to come and hand you a big plate of humble pie=Dig?
The thread wasn't about what YOU do- Throw down some #'s, and tell your story a lil.......
It's all good- But I would be damned to drive in shitty conditions= that's what a shit box is for...........Yep- drove to Freemont, Sac, Sears, B Field.......Ran the #'s, and DROVE home..........
A true/daily/ driven car= at one point for MANY years my only.......

It's just a thread........Drive in shit weather, and rejoice..............

  17. LOL when the raven broke the roadster this year he rode to the auto[arts in this truck. Made me pretty happy to say the least, nothing could have lifted his spirits more then a ride in this old heap. ;)

Here is my first car I ever owned and drove to high school yes it was also the first car I ever built it has over 200,000 miles on it and has been all over the U.S. Even drove it up pikes peak and for ten years it was the only car I had to drive 26 model T coupe with a 4-71 blown hilborn electronic injected (that I built before hilborn done electronic stuff) 265" 6cyl and a 4-speed

  23. Kid,
I remember getting caught in a driving rain storm up in Pig Snarf, MO. I was in the Pusher headed for the came ground and the Raven was behind me for a minute, then passed me like I was standing still. No windshield, someone's old discarded 6 plys on the rear, throwing rooster tails way above the roof of my old heap from all 4. he beat me to the camp ground and was standing under a tree when I rolled in. There was a minimum of 2" of standing water in the floorboards in the roadster still the following morning. LOL That little car gets driven and driven hard.

@caton462 color me stupid friend. What is that car? No offense intended but from that angle it looks like a pickup that someone welded a coupe rear on.

Cool car by the way you just got me curious.

Thanks for the kind words but I'm just a regular guy like everyone else I just have the sickness.

Not sure I've never had a thread on it lol and it's currently broken as I blew the motor up and haven't had time to work on it I have collected some parts to put the motor back together and when I do I'll start a thread on it I'm sure there are pics from past hamb drags as I have raced it there many times it wasn't real fast (it ran low 13's consistently and ran a 12.89 once) but it was a helluva driver and loud as hell with open headers right now it setting in the barn awaiting it's turn in my shop behind my dragster and afx dodge and god knows what else lol
