You see lots of fifties cars in maroon, turquoise and of course black but does anybody have any pics of a car done in a silver color?
"Snoopy, model A coupe survivor". That is the name of the thread about a car pulled from a garage where it sat 45 years. Neat story and it is VERY silver with a white snap on roof insert. Built in the 60s.
1950's era silver looks more like grey to me... Wasn't it Buick that used "silver" quite a bit? Lots of silver in the 60's...
Chevrolet had Silver starting in 1956 that looked like the average silver paint job. When my parents bought my brother a 56 Corvette in 1967 (for $500.00 from the original owner who was getting a divorce) it had the original silver paint with reddish/orange coves and red interior.
Hugh Tucker's '29 Chevy roadster was first raced in 1958. At some point it became silver, but not sure if it was painted that color in the '50s or if it was the very early '60s.
I don't really recall silver becoming to popular until the sixty's. Now the 1956 Porsche 356 looked great in silver. HRP
Caddy had a silver/champagne color in the 50's that showed up in their cars. Similar to 1957 Chevrolet Dusk Pearl. *edit* shown here on a shitty tri 5
It would be rare to find a photo of a silver Deuce built in the 40's and 50's,,Gotta remember that Color photography in magazine print wasn't widely used, especially in hot rod publications. That's not to say Silver didn't exist but in a black & white they probably didn't photograph well. HRP
That color was also called Persian Sand when used on Oldsmobiles and Cadillacs of the era. How about a T in gold? Phil Weiand, 1948
Nice find! Wish I knew exactly what shade of silver this roadster was.. It's not too dark or extremely bright.
There was a nice picture on here of a barn find 1928/29 a bone tudor, with a faded silver paintjob with a red (ish) body line. I liked that a lor, but damned if I can find it. Maybe HRP will remember, he spend as much time on here as me LOL
Sorry, no pics, but my uncle had a '35 Coupe with a warmed flattie. I first saw it about 1960 or 61, but I'm pretty sure he had painted it some time before that. Visualizing it now, he probably did use a brush to paint it. I'll get in touch with my cousin to see what she remembers about it.
'55 Eldorado had Inca Silver that Chevy used in '56. My '56 bought new was Inca silver and it was beautiful. Silver was very popular from '56 on
I'm starting to wonder if Inca Silver was the color used on my Model A... original owner could't recall what the actual color applied in 1961 was... Inca Silver looks very much like paint... I will have to find some old paint chips to compare against the paint under a hub cap (that shouldn't be to faded..)
The Dusenberg Twenty Grand at the Nethercutt was done in silver in 1933, so the color did exist to some extent on automobiles pre 1950s. That car even has a silver leather roof covering and to see the car in person pretty much leaves you speechless.
Not exactly what you asked for, this one dates from the late forties, somewhat infamous. In addition to silver paint, it had a fabric bellypan painted with aircraft dope. The story goes that it developed a fuel leak, fuel collected in the belly pan and ignited, and the car burned to the ground. But it is metallic silver, and its pretty early. Guess the pinstriping and wheels were probably red? Would have been a very sharp looking car.
i like silver and i have a silver car [ot '72 350 SL] but since an artist friend of mine told me when he sees silver his mind thinks gray primer. it is his least favorite color. ever since he told me that, i think primer now.
I remember reading in a magazine article from the time that the Hugh Tucker car was Inca Silver, but I wouldn't take that as gospel, they werent always real accurate about stuff like that
