I'm a lot happier with how the bed came out than before!

 

Installing the glass today. Just a little bit more work and the 1937 build will be done.
I was hoping to have it at the Turkey Rod Run but, I don't think the title will show up in time to have it registered for the road

 

Almost there! I drove it for the first time today, and let me tell ya.... This is one bad ass ride! For a flathead this thing is fast! Here's a video of it and here it run outside. I will post with the top on in a bit.

Amazing work! I was a skeptic when I first began following your thread. Watching your craftsmanship & ingenuity is inspiring that hooked me. You have managed to make a fat fendered Ford look great without fenders which is a challenge to get the proportions to work. Congratulations & thank you for your well detailed adventure.

Thank you. Yes, it's not easy to get the proportions on fenderless trucks correct. I try to make it a fun challenge for myself when doing a build. I've got a few more that I hope to build in the future.

 

Truck top on! Is that a roadster?

Looks good, can you post some details on how you hold the top on and how it's sealed ?
Do you have side windows in there ? Operational, up and down ?

 

I made a leather pad affixed to the bottom of the top to protect the paint and keep out the elements. The top is latched down with heavy duty brass door latches that have a spring and lever that pulls it tight. I hadn't finished the door glass. I'm probably going to make a zip out clear plastic door window, rather than installing the regulators and glass.

 

Work of art for sure. Just a super nice rod. Great lines....love the top!

 

All this hard work, that started off with some hamboozling comments, deserves an interenet "high 5"! This thread belongs on the front page, and "likes" don't make that happen. Great job crossing the finish line with style.

 

I have a Rod tops soft top on my RPU and also had them make the side curtain windows that zip in.
If I had a hard top like you do and the doors with window openings like you obviously do, I think I would go to the extra effort to put the window hardware in and have actual roll up glass windows.
Even if they were windows that had to be rolled down to open the doors.
It would be slick and take it to a new level of wow.

 

I agree. The dilemma was rolling the windows down to open the doors. It wouldn't take much to make that happen. I have all the hardware. It only takes a couple of hours to cut the glass and install.

I'm thinking power windows with a momentary switch in the door handle.
You flip the door handle to activate the window down and then open the door.
Set up properly it could work in tandem with a regular switch to control the up and down of the glass when you were not opening the door.
The door handle switch could be an auto full down.
Would be fun.
Of course old fashioned manual roll down windows would be a whole lot simpler and traditional too

 

I gotta admit, when you first stated what you were going to build I thought.."oh no, not another rat rod". But this really is a nice build. You know what you are doing.
Now, may I please have some gravy with my crow?

Funny! I've had a few "say what's" moments when someone told me their idea. I just don't do cookie cutter.

Great thread and beautiful truck! If you use original size door glass passengers, especially, my try to open the door with the glass "up" in the channel on the top. How do you envision the glass, if used, being installed?

 

I'd definitely go with door glass. It couldn't be too much of a challenge for you given all that you've amazed us with so far.

Na on the gull wing idea. I plan on using the top a lot........

 

I invasion the glass cut just short of the door channel, with weather strip in channel to seal it. Kinda like the modern Mustangs and mid 80's Camaro doors.
