Technical Flathead head gaskets for aluminum heads

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hb32, Nov 26, 2015.

  1. Lots of choices out there but what would you recommend?
    59A with new Edelbrock heads.
Edelbrock recommends the Cometics but there must be something less costly that is comparable ?

Lets see, would you want to torque 48 head stud nuts three times or six? I'd spend the money for the recommended gaskets..

Steel faced gaskets, not composite with aluminum heads.

  5. Best Gaskets is what I used, they specialize in vintage engine gaskets.

  6. I use copper HEADGASKETS.I have taken them off and reused them over again and have experienced no trouble. If your overbore is approaching .100 or larger,an oversized gasket is recommended.I think the ones I use are Victor 3036. You may have to re torque 2-3 times until the heads settle down. image.jpg

^That is the single ugliest air filter on a flatty that I have ever seen.

I have used copper gaskets, and composite gaskets (I think they are Best brand), and have had good luck with both. I sprayed both kinds with Copperkote before installing.

Best gaskets and obviously you continue to torque them as many times as it takes for them to stop moving!
