Good stuff Baron, here are more from that time frame. I am really enjoying both of the Corvette threads lately.

Jason. I have had a love affair with Corvettes since I walked past the first one I ever saw in 1957 on my walk to school (1st grade). For my English literature graduation term paper, I did it on the history of the Corvette. I have owned 17 over the years, with probably the best being my 2001 Z06 that I bought new, figuring I could leave it alone, but that certainly turned out not to be the case. But my current 57 will certainly be my all time favorite, and a dream come true. Maybe the next one will be more of a road racer. :D

I saw a 61 that was what we would call a barn find today, (283, 2x4s) when I was 13 or 14 and tried to buy it for decades. It got me serious about getting one. It had to be a 56-62 for me. I still know where that 61 is but it's still not for sale. They have owned it since the 60s. It's strange how certain cars have made such a big impression on us at such a young age and it hasn't faded with the years. THANKS ZORA !!!!!

Look at the air intake scoops on this one, it looks like it is running at the salt flats or at the lakes . The only cars that I have seen like that ran at Sebring . image.jpeg

I don't know and it doesn't say anything about them in the magazine article that I linked. They definitely give the car a mild custom look and he is running a Latham under the hood bored and stroked 328 CI. and this was in 1959.

Looks like the NASCAR drivers burn outs are nothing new.

Baron I seem to remember that they took the SS out recently and hammered on it and blew the engine. I could be wrong but maybe this was the Speedway people having a bit of fun.

Jason the 253 -56 Vette you posted above is at El Mirage. It is now owned by collector John Neas. John is really nice guy that owns his original 409 he drag raced back in the day as well as some really historic cars. both Corvettes and front engine dragsters (Tony Nancy and Bennie Osborn cars I believe).

The 253 car as I understand it was an assembly line car that was pulled off and Chevrolet used SR-2 parts to redo the car when new. It is called a SR-2 although not one of the original three. It was brown in color (at least that is what the photographs seem to show). By the way I have read that SR stands for Sebring Racer.

Just scanned these pics of my old 66,big block, tilt nose coupe. I had just finished the body work and was ready for paint. Out of all the cars I have owned, this is one of the one's I wish I had kept. With the L88 solid cam and side pipes , it sure sounded nasty. This was the 62 I did up. First powered by a 671 blown big block. After I blew that motor up, it got a 400 big block. Was not anywhere near as much fun, and wound up selling the car.

I love the pictures Baron there is always going to be one that we wish that we had bought or kept. Some times life happens and we have to sell something that we don't want to or we find another car that we want and have to sell something to get the money. The worse one is when we sell a car for more than we think that it's worth and don't replace it and eventually the money is spent and we can't really say where it went.
