I was referred by a friend and after looking around I'm glad he did!
I asked him a question and he sent me here. First time I have ever stumped him.
What GM year and model had an alternator with an output shaft to drive an accessory?
I know they made it, I just can't find it.
    Thanks

You mean like a power steering pump?

Not an alternator, but some Tri-5 Chevys had a generator driving a power steering pump, if I remember correctly.

On early F.I. Vettes it ran the tach.

  6. Yep, it was a serious pain in the ass in the '80s when the '57 wagon's gen died. You couldn't find a new one. Plus, newer power steering steering setups like Chevelle used the same mounting point as the tri 5 engine mount. For a while there, the only time I'd see a tri 5 with a gen, not converted to an alternator, was a power steering car. guys had to keep 'em going.
