  1. I am enjoying this build..........even though I am going in a different direction on my own '39. Nice stuff!

Well, the car made it through the drags just fine. 100 miles there, five passes on the strip, and 100 miles back. Nothing broke, but the rear tires, especially that right rear, are a bit "rounder" now.

I've posted a picture thread of the whole weekend, but here I'll put any pics that show the, temporary, hot rod-ish incarnation of the Tudor:

Two-hundred-plus problem-free miles, camping with the family, a day of drag racing, and a weekend of fun. Who says old cars aren't practical?

Thanks, especially, for getting that '59 Lark in some of your shots. Do you know what engine it was running?

@'Mo The car ran well all weekend, and did 5 passes down the 1/8-mile strip. Times were pretty consistent in the low-11's, which I'd say isn't bad for a flathead-powered family sedan with way too much ass and way too little tire. Next time, I'm planning on real tires out back, and getting better shocks and a sway bar to help the rear axle stay put.

@Peanut 1959 The lark was a pretty cool lil' car, appeared to be SBC powered, but I didn't give it too much of a look-over (which is odd, because I'm a Studebaker guy...)

Well, it has been a while, and this may be my last post for a little while longer. My uncle, Sam, is sending me off on a little trip for the better part of a year at the end of this week.

Yesterday was my last real day off, so I loaded the wife n' kid up in the Tudor and started driving. Up a mountain.

To follow are pictures of our day trip to Paradise, in Mount Rainier National Park...

    ...that's all folks.

Logged a couple hundred more miles, a bunch above 5000 feet, and gave the car a good workout. The family had a good time too, I guess.

Just gonna finish out the next couple days of commutes, then it's into storage for the ol' sedan. Hope to show you guys some progress on the flip side, next year.

  18. Great set of pictures, the car looks great in them, they could have been taken way back in time.

Thanks all. I'm not too thrilled about leaving the family, home, and projects for such a long time, but its what I signed up for. If anything, its good for the pocketbook, and I should have ample time-off when I get back, to finish some projects, both car and house related. I am curious, however, to see how much the honey-do-list grows while I'm away...

Here's a shot I found of the Paradise Inn (the grey building in a few of my pics) way back when...

And the National Park Inn (the orange buldings behind the service station)...

Very cool car. My first car was a '39 Deluxe 2 door sedan. Bought it for $100 in '70. Nothing like yours, though.

  25. Thanks for taking us, nice.

Thanks all for the well wishes.

@The 39 guy the drags were at Riverdale Raceway, south of Chehalis. I just found a video of one of my passes, although they got my year wrong. I show up at 2:23...

You'll notice that I actually won that one. But the digger gave me alot of help by not hooking up and missing a shift.

    What a hoot!
Who pairs a rail with a flathead sedan?
Pre-bracket drags were heaven. This is close!
