They make a couple of aftermarket glass kit for a 58 to 64 bugs. (approx. window size is 14.25" x 32.75"), 1965-1971 Bugs (approx. window size is 15.5" x 35.25") and 72+ approx. window size 18.25" x 35") Hope this helps. HRP
Maybe move a lil bit on my truck into a coupe project. All I need to do is get a back window in it then I can finish from the belt line up. Photo shopped I found this little deal made in steel for a Vw conversion.
I think the size you're looking for is 57 or older vw, oval or split window I'm guessing would be the same size.
It Might? Do you have one handy? I'll be at it with a tape measure and cardboard templets. With a straight on Photo and the edit program with grid lines and a few dimensions, I can get really close on templates. I'll guess the VW will be too big and too round. But I could have that cut in and welded in a couple hours. Prolly take me a month of 2 hr chuncks to make the rear windows.
There is something about the shape of a VW window that makes it look "Goofy:" I don't know what that "something" is but it just doesn't look right, especially in your hot rod. Maybe it's too identifiable and not "old school." It just doesn't flow with the car's overall design. I think a sectioned 32 Ford rear window would look much better. Don't use the VW window just because you have it. On second thought, I wouldn't use the 1940 Ford window either. The window you choose should be longer than is wide. Looking straight on makes a different shape than when its tilted, and as you see the lines on the car. It's just the way it works. See the rear window ?
There are many American made cars with split rear windows, why not use one of them? I may have access to one.
My local friend has a yard with less than desirable cars that may give up a rear window. It may take a few days to get up there and check. Here is a possible candidate, not the actual car but for reference, late 30's Chevy. I think windows that are flat across the bottom would look best.
Around page 18 or so in my build thread (in my signature) there's a whole bunch of discussion on the rear window From a 36 Oval split Flat bottom split
What about taking the back side windows from a pre-64 vw and sectioning them to fit and graft in, maybe even use pop out frames on the glass...
It's gonna' look damned good whatever you pick. The making it yours thing will narrow that thought down .... can't say you haven't done that. The pop out window/windows thought would be cool. Stainless frames and a hinge/hinges .... nice hot rod ventilation ... which could turn into a hammer form panel/window process tech post, right ? On another note ... this one is in Kansas. Single light. Someone will tell you they had a coupe just like that. Probably same comment with a triple light too. lol The link is the last post on Larry's Dadgum frame thread ... as of yesterday. Although, making something fit your creation may or may not be as inspiring. ... as holding your beer and watching you fly. That's fun enough, for most of us. Here's a two light 37-38 Pontiac 4 door sedan >>
I had thought of this window set up also, but this is a Buick, Olds or Pontiac from '37/'38....not a Chevy. Chevy coupes has one piece glass, which may be a good candidate for consideration. From the mockups you have shown, I also prefer the one piece window, but it's not a slam dunk. A two piece, with the right contours, could look very good. Ray
Went up to my friends yard, there were a few split windowed cars but only one he would let the window be cut out of. Here is the car, an early Ford sedan, it has a flat bottom that would look good on the coupe once cut down.
You do know, of course, if you install a 'split', or 'two-light' in the rear, your coupe will be referred to as a 'six window'. Just sayin'...
Don't know if you're still interested in this but I was near one, this is 57 oval window. It does look to be a different shape than the split, less of a point at the sides.
