I was at the Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California today. This weekend NHRA is having a big event there. Parked in a display area was this car hauler. It is powered by a 8.1 liter Chevy engine. The builder said he built the car hauler in his back yard.

Pretty cool. It even has semaphores! You could never lose it, hard to hide it if it was ever stolen, and would attract attention wherever it went. After it retires from hauling a race car, it could be turned into an art deco diner. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

That thing is amazing, a ton of man-hours in building that. I`ve seen a Hot-wheels truck that is very close to this.
I would like to have that wooden tool box, very nice.

Rich Roberts and his friends from Winton and Merced, Cal built that and a bunch of other cool .... stuff! This hauler appeared after his very nice COE ramp truck on which he hauled a bad ass 34 Willys. Behind it was a polished Airstream trailer. These guys are amazing. I believe Rich puts on the Turlock swap meet.

  13. that is one awesome rig, lots of work in that, how long was the build time?..do you know the overall length?
...I see the wood boards on the deck for the tires of the hauled vehicle; I keep seeing guys do this, what's the main purpose ?...is it to save the deck or so the tires don't move/slide on the aluminum deck?

  14. I like the tractor, but the trailer really needs nice big radii on all the corners. Great idea, but too slab sided to fit the Art Deco period. JMHO
Could I do better? Probably not.

I don't know what the reason for the boards are in this trailer but most guys use the boards to raise the car up high enough to allow the car doors to opened above the inner fender wells of the car trailer.

I have been wanting to see some details of this trailer. Thanks for posting Marcosmadness!

I have heard something about the aluminum eventually cracking from the constant movement of the car's weight.

to keep it from imprinting the diamond plate tread into the slicks as the slick is soft and impressionable .

I would love to see more of this guy's work. If he builds one off stuff like this with regularity he deserves more attention, assuming that he wants the attention. Anyone have pictures of something else he's built?

It showed up in another thread on the HAMB, it was a group effort built in the guys backyard, unfortunately I can't think of what thread it was in.

Neat rig. It would sure look better in a darker or less bright color though.
