I am building a Model A roadster with a flathead from my 50 Ford. I have a Chevy T5 and used the adapter, flywheel, clutch etc from Speedway. Also have the old style cast bell housing extension on the 8BA. Tried to use my existing 50 starter motor but the leading end as you install it or head as I believe Ford called it, will not fit past the flywheel and the bell housing let alone go in with the starter plate attached to the bell housing. The new flywheel and the old one appear to be the same diameter. Do I need to get a truck starter that maybe has a smaller diameter head? What about an aftermarket mini starter? Or should I try and grind out the bell housing so I can slip the starter past it and the flywheel? Any suggestions much appreciated.
