Not the most exciting truck in the world, but free is had to pass up. My brother's wife's grandpa bought this 52 new and used it in his landscape business til he passed, then it sat for ever, she inherited it, and got tired of storing it and my Brother was tasked with getting rid of it, when he asked me if I wanted it, of course I said yes! So we loaded on his car hauler and took it to my shop.. I think it will make a great shop truck. I has one dent, and practically no rust
Naw, it has a later 235, so two carbs, two pipes, build a decent bed, replace those giant mirrors with stockers, figure out how to lower it some, clean it up and use it.
Very nice score. We bought a 53 last month. A three window, "field truck", and had to drag it home too. Yours looks to be much better shape than ours!! Keep us posted man...............
I worked on the old girl a little bit today. Checked out the engine number,turns out it's a 1956 loadmaster. Drained the oil and when I pulled the plug, approximately 2 quarts of the clearest, cleanest water yeah, water came out. Like straight out of a garden hose. Then 5 quarts of nasty black oil..it's got me worried. Pulled the plugs, and they looked great, pretty sooty, but no chunky oil deposits. Tomorrow I'm going to put fresh oil and a filter in it and see if it will turn over..fingers crossed

LOL that makes one of us. The big truck can be cool especially of it is being used. I have been thinking of taking a bog truck and building myself a ramp truck, of course I would them have to build a car to haul on it I suppose. Anyway the big AD will make a nice shop truck for sure.

Yes, I'm building the 52 just to have a cool old truck to haul stuff in, I get to tempted to haul stuff in my 37, and that just can't happen..haha. my brother built the GMC car hauler completely himself, frame, bed, suspension, and all. It has a Cummings 12v under the front bed floor . It has truck air suspension, so you can just back up to a car, lower the truck to the ground, and drive/wench whatever you're picking up right up on it. It's so bitchin!
Well, after changing the oil and filter, adjusting the point gap, cleaning the plugs and re-gapping them, some fresh gas and a new 6v battery, the old 235 sprang right back to life! It's nice and quiet no knocking, no lifter rattle, no smoking, nothing! I pretty sure they stopped using it when the water pump broke. I topped up the brake fluid, did a quick bleed, and drove it across the parking lot. It's going to need lots of TLC, but dang, it's a pretty cool old truck.
Cool truck my grandfather bought a 48 one ton that same color new in 48. My brother still has it. I'd keep an eye on the coolant level in it and make sure that it isn't getting into the crank case.
Been working a little on the big green truck..found out it had a burnt exhaust valve, so I had to do a valve job on the old girl. Did a kinda mini notch on the frame, and relocated the rear spring perches to the top of the frame to lower the rear. Found that 17" dodge dually fit real good. I also used a Ford f250 rear axle.. She's not a prom Queen, but she'll do some hauling....
Nice. I like the slight modifications to get it more usable. Looks like you cleaned up the paint a bit too.
Best looking 'free' truck I've ever seen. Congrats, yourve had to do a little work to it, but that's a great freebie.
that truck is in such nice original condition,,,you really lucked out there! Don't need a prom queen to haul parts ,,just a reliable old girl
