Got the firewall done, including filling 37 holes. After the frame is all done, I plan on putting the body back on and then chop the roof, so the firewall needed to be addressed before that happens. Body color won't be black, just the firewall.
The frame is coming along too. Yeah ok, I'm probably gonna get some crap for some of the parts I'm using, but hey, most of the parts came with the car and have been proven to be reliable.
Amazing! Chris, thanks for all the detailed photos; I'm a model builder working on one of the old ITC '40 Mercury convertible kits and they will be a big help. I take it your car's original color was Sahara Tan?
Great start already. Every time I think, nah, I'll just build this one on the frame....along comes a build like yours that reminds me I'm stupid and should go all the way down.
Looks like a pretty cool project, I'm along for the ride. If you have any ideas you'd like to see photoshopped just let me know. As for the "parts" thing, (master cylinder etc) someone once told me that being able to stop was a good thing and I tend to agree. Btw, I see you still have the '36 Ford, any plans for that? Seems like ages ago it left here.
Two of my friends crashed their hot rods, because of failing single master cylinders. Good brakes and a dual master cylinder are a no brainer these days. The 36 will get built one of these days, love that car.
Can't belive I hadn't seen this before Chris! I'm following along on IG and I'll join here too. Gonna be awesome I'm sure
Alright, sorry for the sporadic posts but here is little update. I put the body back on the frame and now its time to chop the car. Here is where I more or less, take the Kevan Sledge approach. To get rid of the big "forehead" the windshield opening was moved up 1 5/8"
Next, I started measuring and marking where my next cut will be. I will take 6" out of the A- Pillars and 7" out of the C- Pillars. Next thing you know, the cutting begins. B-Pillars gone.
After some trimming the roof went back on. In order to lengthen the window opening and get rid of the round swoop some pie cuts needed to be made. Again, Kevan Sledge does this on most of his chops. After.
Chris, I sat staring at the screen trying to think of something to say and I come up blank. You are a legend in your own time! Much respect.
