Karl, swears by Red Kote gas tank sealer. I'll give that a go.

  3. I'm not familiar with Red Kote, so this may not apply, but be careful as some of the old tank sealers turn to snot when put in contact with the new fuels.. A buddy of mine had to tear his nicely painted Model A apart because his whole fuel system was plugged! Best 'o' luck!

If it is a new tank, is it something you can go back to where you bought it and get a repacement?
Not likely to get it replaced if you try to seal it with the Red Kote, then it is on you to buy a new tank if it doesn't work out.

It's a tank Steve bought 10-12 yrs ago. If I can find the receipt it will be worth a call.

Red kotes web site is pretty informative. Good resistance to 90% ethanol and methanol, good with additives and high octane.

Video of the motor break in coming up!

Hope it all works out for you, that sucks to have new parts not perform as they should.

I siphoned a little gas out, and of course got a good taste in the process. Yesterday I primed the carbs, this am I pulled coil wire and got the fuel pump to prime. Dad came up, and Karl was there to keep an eyes on things. First crank didn't sound right and I suspected the distributor was 180 out...and it was. Got that fixed, and it popped off pretty much as you see here. No major issues, a few drips out of rear main, that I hope heal itself.

The distributor has an o-ring seal and it is super tight in the bore making tough to advance and retard.

About 18mos to get to this point. All in all a good day, and Memorial day being a fitting day to fire it up!

Thank again guys. My punch list is less than a page, but I always find more to add. I hope knock out most of them this weekend and next.

Alright. The beer assistant showed today. Got some nut serts in the frame for the hood hold down, bleed the brakes, and got the fenders set on.
