Thanks for the comments guys. Been thrashing on the car this past week. Friend of mine let me use his spray booth for a few days while he is on vacation. This gave me time to paint the engine compartment and paint the dash. I also was able to get some color on the jams on the top lid cover and get the top in primer. With all this done, now I can bolt on the top lid cover , cut the holes for the roll bar to pass through, and weld the roll bar in and install the motor. I hope to install the motor this coming week-end . The headers are out to be coated, the 57 Olds housing is out being sandblasted and I have a set of 4.10's / 35 spline spool coming . Plenty to keep me busy, to say the least.
Fantastic, this car is going to be a knock out. It sits right and is being built like it would have been back in the 60s with the owner finding a car that needed work and building it himself the way he wants it. It's a seldom seen color but it looks good.
Looking great, hope mine turns out as nice. Engine will be a killer on yours will be the old school look with the duals.
The motor went right in today with no problems. I had left the transmission in the car as they are tuff to get in and out with the x-member being right in the way. Sometimes this method works well and sometimes not so good. Lucked out today. Little bummed out as the scoop I have saved all these years is not tall enough to fit. I can either cut the scoop and make it an inch and a half taller, use a different scoop or buy a new tunnel ram (new ones are 3 inches shorter). Plenty of time to decide while I continue putting this together.
Thanks guys. Absolutely Larry. Maybe at the Hot Rod Reunion ... Hi Steve. They are the same height. I decided to go with the new Weiand tunnel ram . It is about 3 inches shorter than the TR2 X and I really like the looks of my old scoop on the car. I thought about modifying it to make it taller, but 2 1/2 - 3 inches will really block my vision.
That's a lot of blind spot Baron. I'm thinking that 3 inches lower might keep you out of a bad situation some day. Just sayin'
Unfortunately, I am unable to take that much time off. But I will be going to the Hot Rod Reunion in Epping NH. Less than an hour from my home. Hi Jim. You got that right. At 6 and a half inches, this scoop just makes it ( no worse than my 55 or my Chevy II).
Wow, Baron, you finished your car real quick. Nice touch putting a girl in the shot with a 60s bathing suit.
Thanks. Had not seen this one before. Good looking car, terrible color choice for the flames. Hey Jim. Wish I was that quick ! Wonder what the good looking girl in the bathing suit looks like today The new Weiand manifold arrived today. Not quite as sexy as the old Edelbrock, but everything fits under the scoop and it will probably be better mannered on the street. And usually the only time my hood is open is when I checking the fluids.
Put on a new set of Firestones today. The whitewall showing on the inside bugged me and although the 205 - 15's look good on my 55 Chevy, they looked too big on the Corvette. These also brought the front end down another inch.
Had a couple of productive days . Installed the new intake and carbs. Bolted the fuel pump, water pump, pulleys and fan on the motor. Looks like the fan is in the right location for the stock radiator shroud. Hopefully it will be enough to cool the motor. If not, on to plan B. Also removed the front radiator support , prepped , painted and re-installed it and finished the front frame spreader bar, painted that and that is all bolted in.
