I think I can speak of everyone on the hamb when I say I k ow how you feel about getting excited about seeing or working on your car. It's an emotion non car people just don't understand.

I got about an hour of work in on the car after working all day and before dinner. It needs a few more thick coats of primer and it will be pretty smooth.

Yea man I love that! I get all my inspiration from these 50's and early 60's high school cars. It looks bitchin with the shortie lakes. I've only ever seen that on one or two other cars.

 

I had a chance to buy a 53 with a built flathead that had period correct speed parts on it back in 2001.It was a daily driver and in fair to good shape.A friend of mine bought it while I made snarky little comments about it to him under my breath.Now I wish I would have bought it myself.Live and learn.

 

I got the headlights back in today. The body work is a bit rough, but it matches the rest of the car. Haha.

Haha yes I already am. Seeing some shiny green is making me want to paint the rest of it green eventually. I was originally thinking a pearl white with candy red roof. Decisions decisions.

Thanks. I like it like this for now. I think it looks cool while its in progress. I just didn't want to have big grey primer spots all over the place.

I'm the same way, I always finish my work in black.

 

Just like Eric H has done with his shoebox, each modification you do improves the appearance of a very nice custom being created. Looks better with each improvement you've made so far.

 

What's next on the agenda?

 

There are a few minor things I want to do before I drive it much more. There is still some rubbing and it bottoms out sometimes. So I'm going to raise the transmission tunnel a little more forward of the backseat, and also above the rear axle. I would like to French the tail lights, and work on a floating grill/molded valence and rounded hood corners next. But, getting some sound deadener and insulation and window felts would make cruising a lot more comfortable, so that might come next.

 

Internals come first,then interior,then exterior.I've always done it that way,as I'll work on internal stuff so that it runs and drives.Interior comes next,comfort is nice as you age.exterior comes last,as I like to cogitate before making my moves.

 

That's a good plan. Plus original Rot on the exterior is pretty cool.

 

Good call. I'm still not sure on body color or scheme yet either, so I can cogitate on that while I'm finishing up the other things.

Today I finished cutting and raising the transmission tunnel. It only needed to come up about an inch. I tacked it all in place and loaded the trunk up with weight to simulate a passenger or two. No more rubbing or bottoming out! That is a relief.
The weight lowered the back about an inch and I like it too much to leave it be. So I think I'll remove another leaf next and see how close it comes.

 

How is your turning with front tire tucked up pretty good?

 

Any fender work on the horizon?

 

The turning radius isn't great. I probably couldn't make a very tight u turn, but it's good enough for pulling in and out of my garage and into parking spots at car shows and what not. The tires rub when I cut hard, but I've learned to make wide turns and go slow right before it rubs.

 

As long as you can do regular driving, u turns aside. That's good because the car looks slick

 

I agree with CDOH, keep that stance!
