I recently scored a dual-carb manifold setup for a 50s Holden to use on my '58 Holden wagon. It came set up with a pair of Stromberg 48 carbs. Is there any merit in swapping them for a pair of 97s? Cheers guys, Johnny
Dont think the ones that are on the intake in the pic are 48's looks like a couple of one barrel carbs.
The pic i posted is 94's lol i get confused in the morning the funny thing is they are my carbs i know what they are
48's are slightly bigger but will work just finr...at least in my application they do. Hard to picture a sceinero where 97's work great and 48's just don't work. regardless if they were mine I would clean them up and, if all is visually OK, i'd put kits in them and give it a go. I would think they are worth 250 or so unmolested. g
I'm running two 48's on my coupe built 48 Merc. motor and two 97's on my roadster built 33 motor. Both cars run great. What is the rest of the motor like?
Probably two stock 1 barrel Strombergs. I'd rebuild them and give them a try, likely they are what the intake was designed to run.
The old grey's only need a single strommy to run fine, having 2 is ok, for some oomf, like having to much coffee, lol, they're easy to rebuild and practical, need to see some pics of the fe/fc wagon, good luck,Gaz!
These appear to be the old original holden carbs. Not stromberg 48s. run the two as is cos you already own them.
Cheers for the replies, guys! It looks they are the factory type single-barrel Strombergs. Sorry for the misidentification, I've spent most of my time wrenching on Holley-equipped Y-blocks so this stuff is new to me.
This is the "good one". It was my Dads first car, and was identical to the one my grandfather and great grandfather drove. This one will be a mild custom, and the spare car will be me and a mate of mines gasser project.
I'm pretty sure those are Stromberg 847's that came stock on 49-51 flathead Ford 6 cylinder. I ran 2 on my avatar for several years. They are sort of half a Stromberg 97.
