    That's what I was thinking! Dixie?

    Who else noticed the chop? Not me!

    I doubt the weight savings would offset the increased drag, eh? Gary

    general info, this may not be a NHRA race. NHRA 1960: A for altered coupe and sedan. Cars in this division may have under gone moderate alterations from stock. Engine may be relocated but, under certain limitations. Fenders may be removed or not. 3 classes for A Division (A/A, B/A, C/A)

  5. Maybe it served double-duty as his daily driver in a state with fender laws.:eek: He had to shave some weight somewhere.

    It sure is interesting , that's for sure . Ya know , if it was just another one with stock fenders - or no fenders , noone would've taken a second look ;) . Even if it served no aerodynamic purpose , it got attention !

    Looks cool but I doubt the holes helped with speed. The best wind break fences are 50% holes and flatbed truckers hauling open pipe often wrap the front of the pipes with a tarp to reduce drag.

    no, we often have to tarp the pipe to keep stuff from getting in the pipe as required by the shippers . nothing like finding a dead bird or trash bag stuffed in a water pipe or the pipe full of carbon from the exhaust .or snow or ice this time of year ...

    Racers are known for "japping" dang near anything...this absolutely not! g

  20. The guy originally built a chopped high boy but decided to keep the fenders under a tarp in the backyard in case he ever needed them. 25 or so years later he decided to put them back on but they were pretty rusty so he just cut out all the rust spots rather than repair them.

    How possible is it that mr. Montgomery knows more about this car?

    Or is there a person that knows more about this then him?
    The rikster of racecars, fuel coupés and Lake cars. :cool:

    Edit;
    I took a chance, and PM'ed him. :)

    This car and driver were actually QUITE FAMOUS in the 60s. The driver/builder was also a dinner owner and operator. His specialty was Julienne Fries! He revolutionized the now popular "food truck" phenomenon. He would go to the track, drag his ass off, then park in the pits and make Julienne Fries using his hot rod as the grater. He called them "Julienne Jalopy Fries!" Fellow racers and spectators loved it! Until the food safety inspectors shut him down in 1968. The car, and driver, were never seen again...

  26. I found this section of the photo interesting. At first glance it looks like someone ran into it...:D

  27. If it was a modern build I would go with you on the bad taste, but judging from the old hoopties in the background and the total lack of any clues to it being new I would say that it is a combo of reduced drag and weight loss.

    Yep looks photo shopped right there doesn't it.

    I See what you meen, but i thinks there is missing a part of the fender. If it was top quality digital photo, it wouldent look that weird.
    Like the metal finish on the chop. True race car, from the generation who called it heli-arc, and still gas welded! :cool:

    Just to fill out the silens between posts;
    What are the three cars behind it?

    Middle one looks like a Volvo 444 or 544.
    Front one; a early 50s Chevy sedan, the rare deleted gasser option ;)
    And the background is chebby too?

  29. The car in the for ground is a MOPAR product of some sort, the Volvo looks to be circa '59 or so and yes the way back one is a 55 Chevy if I am not mistaken.
