any one got some old magazines or pics of 1960-62 Plymouth Valiants and Dodge Lancers with V8s in them? I remember having a old Hot Rod mag that had a photo feature of a valiant or Lancer with a max wedge in it. I also missed a chance to buy a Hurst motor mount set that put a 327 Chevy in a 60 valiant. The 60-61 Valiants and lancers had a slightly different front suspension while the 62s had the same basic setup as 63-66 A bodies.A light ugly car, I guess a Stude lark or Rambler would be neat also.
I remember a writeup about one that got a Chev 283 when it was practically a new car. Don't remember the details except that they had to remove the heater to get room for the distributor. Don' t know why anyone would bother, when you can get such good power out of the slant six. Smokey Yunick said it responded to a few simple modifications, more than any other motor he ever saw. This was the Hyperpak kit from Chrysler, that allowed the Valiants to wipe the floor with the Falcons, Corvairs, Larks, Ramblers and Volvos in the short lived NASCAR compact series.

Jim....was just moving mags around today and looked through this issue with the Studie as well.... of note - the early 60-63 K-Frame will take the bolt on motor mounts from the factory 64/66 small block Abody cars....
It's a MOPAR.......what's not to believe about the horsepower they are making with it? Barely more than one hp per cubic inch..........piece of cake! Ray
I can't put my hands on it right away, but I have the article on doing the small block Chevy in the Lancer/Valliant. I'll try to remember to scan and post in the next day or two.
You mistook me. It's making a lot MORE hp than 420. I raced a 63 Belvedere Stage 3 MaxWedge in 1966-68 and knew a number of others at that time. Using the required "stock" components we were making well in excess of 500hp. I'm guessing that these guys were doing the same. WAY underrated motors.
You don't expect them to give away all their secrets do you? A little sand bagging is normal in racing. The 300H 413 was the top engine in the Chrysler camp in 1962, 380HP. So they only claim 40HP more for a full on drag engine. Sure.
I have one. A '62 Lancer wagon with a 318/Torqueflyte/PDB/'70 Dart 340 rear end/sway bars. Drives awesome. Here's a pic!
Our family car when I turned 16 was a fire-engine red '62 Valiant stationwagon with a 170 cu in slant six. Always fantasized about putting a 273 or 318 in it.
