I think that '40 Chevy (Above) has been around for many years, please correct me IF I'm wrong...

AND, since this is a "kustoms" thread, I'm assuming nearly any type of kustom fits, correct, Mick...??? So, here's a couple from the Spokane GG's show in August... IMG_2302.JPG IMG_2303.JPG
Of course, we have to start off with my favorite-a '57 Chevy... one of the more radical builds, and a survivor...!!!

and then we'll post this kool little '53/'54 Plymouth with a chopped top...
    IMG_2310.JPG
Note the color...green is the new Red...has been for several years now...!!!

  3. Here's a few highlights from the Hangin' Dice Nats 1990. That guy looking at me with "stop taking my picture" look behind the maroon '53(?) Ford appear familiar? Funny thing is, we didn't actually meet and become friends until 20 years later. LOL

The '58 Impala convertible was for sale that year for $8500. Man, I wanted that car bad. But, I was still in school and that may as well have been a million. :( I was totally in awe to see Jimmy Vaughn's car (and him) in person. Got to talk to Blayne Kaufman at the Rodder's Journal Revival a few weeks ago about his chopped Merc. Cool to see it again after all these years.

Ya know DocD., I never made it to the "Hangin' Dice" event...always wanted to but something always came up (in another part of the country...!!!) Used to love the "Last Pass" and went there many times love the Des Moines fairgrounds...heard GG's event over the fourth of July this year had over 4000 cars...bet they packed every corner of that grounds...!!!

Howsomeever, since we all like to look at pix, here's a very kool Ford I shot...recently sent it to Kustoms Illustrated...built by an 80 year old at his home, even did the top and the upholstery himself...told me he had one exactly like it when he was 20 years old...LONG LIVE KUSTOMS...!!!

  5. I love that '57 Roger. You don't see many '57's done as customs much less with significant changes.

  6. ….and I love that '40, since you posted while I was typing. LOL Hope I'm still building away when I'm 80….of course, I'll probably be 80 before I get through with all the honey do's my wife will want done when I retire and finally get some shop time. LOL

  10. That '39 is nice. Good to see a car built with a decent stance and not sitting on the ground looking broken.

    Actually that's a '53 Dodge. Here's another '53 Dodge, George Cavanah's two-door wagon

OK Arkie, I'm not much of a Mopar guy and thanx for the correction, but the Dodge was a cool kustom...it's one of those cars that very few people can see as a kustom...

At any rate, here's one for Mick, shot in Santa Maria in '09, enjoy:

    IMG_6253.JPG

Not sure I dig this '48 Caddy...I think he lost it by removing all the chrome trim and blanking in the taillights, but, it's not my car and if he likes it..also shot in S.M in '09...

actually this is a 1941 tudor, with the lid removed, not a 40.

  22. I do. These are mostly the highlights. Are you looking for something in particular?

I loved seeing your car at KKOA mlewis114 - great shots.

Dr. Dave and Roger you have some amazing old kustom photos. Great stuff from you too Mick. I will add a few of my favorites of cars I have seen the last few years and try not to repeat too much that is already here.

I'll start with Jim Ireland's well known 40 Ford which I even got to cruise in recently in Baltimore.

A 49 Olds owned by Albert Torelli that I just loved - so kool - shown here at this year's RJR
    [IMG]

Also well known - Arturo Quesada's blue 50 shoebox.

I will have to look and see if I have the owner on this 1959 Thunderbird - from the first Rodder's Journal Revival in 2012
    [IMG]

I have this one's owner somewhere too, but I know Mick knows this one - 1949 Plymouth from the 2012 Stray Kat 500
    [IMG]

Bob Whitaker's 1960 Buick Invicta from the 2011 GNRS in Pomona
    [IMG]

I will try to put in some more every day or so

Thanx for the comment Dan...not nearly as dedicated to a camera as you but I know what I like... I met Bob Whitaker and loved his gorgeous Buick in S.M., we parked right next to him and shot the crap all day watching people look at cars.

OK, here's a few more from Santa Maria...
IMG_6263.JPG Not much in the way of changes on this '55 Caddy, it's near stock on the outside but it's nosed and the door handles are missing so that makes it a kustom.

    IMG_6284.JPG
Really like how the Packard taillights were done on this Ford...and the gloss roof and flat paint make it a contemporary kustom...
    IMG_6277.JPG

'53/'54 Lincoln looks like it was once a hardtop, but with the chopped windshield and the minor body mods, it's a kool kustom now...how's that song go: "it never rains in Southern California."

    Enjoy,

    Nice car taildragger1957 - congrats.

Thanks Roger - but truth be told you are also a pretty darn good photographer. Mick - thanks for including one of the very few pics where I look halfway decent at a car show. Great shots Rusk!! And great shots everyone else - some wonderful and unusual cars.

Dr. Dave - I was curious what that 4th car in your KKOA 2000 coverage ( under the purple Chevy) was if you happen to know. Also - that 58 Chevy seems like it was an incredible bargain - even at 1990 prices.

Well here is my contribution for today.

A few from this years Custom Car Revival that I didn't see included in anyone else's contributions ( excuse me if I double covered them - I looked at the others last night and my memory is not what it used to be.

I will have to go back and find the owners on the rest of these, where I have them.

Hey Dan, I can answer that. That is the Larry Ernst (sic?) Chevy called the La Jolla. I believe it started out as a '51 Bel Air, but I could be wrong. It was built back in the 50s. Saw it in person at the 2000 Leadsled. It is beautiful! E
