I had to do a double-take with that picture... My brain couldn't decide if I was seeing it cross-eyed or if the image was blurred. That's a Wild look!
A guy in my area. Did just about the same thing as 29tudor. Same basic car but I think he used a Pinto or Vega bumper. You knew you had seen what it was before. But you just couldn't figure it out. Looked pretty darn good.

This is a GREAT example of a 'simple idea'...but this one really fits! Mustang 'face bar' is perfect either bare or 'dressed': could be used with some early Datsun bumper guards, they're 5" high, and look like custom teeth...I 'found' some, in a box of stuff that came back from the chrome shop. A bud used them on a '54 Ford grille bar in a '54 Ford hardtop. Wish I had pics!
1956 chevy hood trim for the bar and some 1954 Lincoln rear bumper bullets i found at u pull it for $11 for both (i have to rework the grill opening as im not happy with it, but its my first time )

In the Upholstery world there is a Product called "C" chrome its Chrome anodized Aluminum it can be shaped, used it to make a custom Grill for my truck back in the 80's was asked where I bought the Grill replied home made. did tell them how I made it ,they sell the clips for this and tried them better off making your own out of aluminum
Apparently the grille bar in the Pharaoh's Merc from American Graffiti (sp?) is a cut down '70 Camaro non-split style front bumper.
That same 8 ft section of metal will cost 1/4 to 1/2 of Lowes price at a real steel yard that sells flat bar. Steel fab shops sometimes sell pieces out of their remnant bins or racks for low prices too. Lowes is just too expensive on that stuff unless you are desperate.

I made a grill for my 56 PU out of 1/2" conduit . Bent it to the shape I wanted weld a nut in the ends and chrome plated it. I did this in 1958.

Customs in the early days sometime used perforated steel sheet cut to grille opening size then filled with Bullets or drawer pulls in a pattern that u decided on.
