Turned around and ready to go. I'm trying to confirm with Glenn that it's coming and he's going to be there. 002 (3).JPG

Glenn says he was out in the shop and didn't hear the phone. He says he has a doctors appointment tomorrow morning. He will call me when he gets back...

    We're all old guys.

I called Glenn tonight to see how he's doing. He has some sleep problems that his doctor is helping him with. He did ask if the car runs and I had to tell him that it doesn't. He was not happy. I'll have to drop it right at his door (shop) step, and pick it up there when I go back.

Jesse couldn't remember what size his tire's were. He did say that they weren't big 'n little's. These are Goodyear power cushion 750X15s.

Glenn may know someone that could sort out the electrical problem. We'll have to see.

Well, now I know why I like to be at least a couple of months ahead on this thread. These long gaps are very frustrating, but rest assured... 001 (3).JPG

Well, OK then...lets do the hubcaps. These are 15"er's with glued (structural adhesive) on trim rings. To get 001.JPG 002 (9).JPG 002 (11).JPG em' to look like this is expensive.

WOW - Caddy caps GLUED to trim rings?? That really works??

  18. Apparently so. It's often suggested on "how do I mount sombreros" threads.

But how did they do it "back in the day"? I'm sure there were no glues then like we have today.

Back in the day they welded clips to them and then either had them repolished (Stainless) or rechromed.
A lot of what you do to mount the Caddy wheel covers is based on what year you use. The early ones 47-52 I believe had an inner ring/cap that snapped onto the wheel. The later ones had outer clips like a modern wheel cover that were somewhat easier to work with.
Regardless of the year these caps were heavy and had a tendency to fall off of wheels other than the original Cadillac.
There is quite a few threads in regards to which year is which and the differences between them. Also in 47 Cadillac used 2 wheel sizes. 15" and 16". The 16" are fairly rare.
The Whole Cadillac "Sombrero"thing is like a sub-culture to hard core custom fans. And I believe that the term "Sombrero" was originaly applied to the 49-52 covers only. Now it is used rather genericly. It's very interesting.

I can't wait to see this in person! Sombreros look great, Jerry! Really looking forward to seeing a picture of it with the grill, Appletons, and sombreros in place :)
