Great post 'Mo. Great pictures but the story behind the photos is really special. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
The Rodder's Journal Show held at the Pimiloc Race course in Baltimore Maryland. Best show on the east coast.
Just a few parting shots, for the road. Intricate hand made tail light trim on the Polynesian. According to Kustomramaa, at some point in the car's history these lights were replaced with fins and 1957 Plymouth tail lights. Fortunately, the original bodywork remained underneath (!), the bezels had been saved, and Gene was able to return the Polynesian to its original configuration. Does anyone have a photo of the car with the fins and Plymouth lights? Distinctive shoulder on rear fender of the ClarKaiser Ford. There were, of course, many beautiful customs that I missed shooting. If you took any pics of customs (or better yet, had one at the show!), feel free to post them on this thread.
Since I included the silver coach built Lincoln, it would seem disrespectful not to include the Dore/Hetfield car as well.
Kustomrama has two photos of the "updated" version of the Polynesian. http://www.kustomrama.com/index.php?title=File:Jack-stewart-1950-oldsmobile-the-polynesian-8.jpg http://www.kustomrama.com/index.php?title=File:Jack-stewart-1950-oldsmobile-the-polynesian-9.jpg
^^^^^ wonder if they will ever change that gold trim to chrome? Sure would be an improvement. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Thanks, straykat'. It was all the better to see these great customs amidst hundreds of first class hot rods and racers, in a somewhat mobile setting. There was the occasional crackle of uncorked pipes, or blower whine warning you to step aside for slow moving on-coming traffic. Thanks, Sancho. Customs were always changing with the times. I find the re-fresh is tasteful as well. Agreed. Thanks for posting, Torchie. That's a real piece of history! I'll try to get some interior shots at 'Kustoms by the Sea" this weekend.
These cars were also at the show, but I didn't get new photos. They certainly deserve recognition, so here are some a couple of shots from last year. (If anyone has pics from this show post 'em up, and I'll delete these.) This well-traveled Ford is one of the nicest anywhere. Dashboard is a multi-cut '49-'50 Ford.
