It's nice to revisit the "old places" once in a while -
that was sure a very cool looking vette!

 

OK, the you know what has been installed and, it ain't comin' off. Now comes the fit and finish issues all over the car.

Unfortunately all this is being complicated by a pesky re-acurring wiring issue. Hopefully I can get this fixed.

Jerry did you find the loose wire at the relay? I need to do something different to keep that from getting knocked loose when you work under the dash. Did you ever find the schematics I left you?

Thanks everybody. The electrical problem appears to be a faulty ballast resistor. I've ordered one, As promised, here is a look at the sprayed garnish mldg with the chromed vent window frame installed. If I didn't know the facts I would've missed it.

Involved with paint finish up while waiting for that resistor.

 

Oh what fun, 100+ degree days, trying to find the correct headlight buckets, flirting with burnout. If I could find that one bucket I actually could button up the nose. Grille, bumpers, everything.

The doc (specialist) said that the elbow wasn't put back together correctly. He wants to see how far I can get with therapy. The knee gets cut on the 5th of Sept.

I got the ballast. I need Mike to come out so I can get the car running and get it on the lift. I'll then have great access to that nose.

 

Just checkin’ in, still alive. I don’t know why I can’t just do the body work, block and paint and be done with it, but I can’t. With paint, cut & buff done I’m not happy. Yeah, it’s the details.

Monumental battle over making that “nose” look right. I finally realized after carefully going over all the pics that the lower part has a slight “belly” to it. I finally saw it in this pic. Thanks Rik.

I could stare at those front pictures for a long time, no flaws at all, this kind of work is really hard to do without screwing it up, but you knocked it out of the park! (yes, the details are always the hardest because you're so worn out from doing all the hard work...we've all been there)

 

The first things I removed from the car were the h/l buckets. When I got the '47 Merc parts I remembered to get those headlight buckets as well. NOW that I'm trying to find everything, I can only find three buckets and none of them match up to the holes in the fenders. I think that the local squirrel population has made a swap with a stash of headlight buckets from somewhere else. That's how bad its gotten. The squirrel's don't give me any respect. I need a R-L set of buckets with this hole configuration. This is looking from the back. HELP!

 

It sounds like you have developed 'Dave Syndrome', I know, I'm Dave. The car is absolutely stunning. Fantastic job!

I called Bill Dyson (post #1150) to tell him about my situation with the headlights. He called me the next day and said that he had gone to Wichita Falls on some business and was about a half hour out , on his way south. I said great, stop by. When he looked at everything he pointed out that one of the three buckets was ’41 Ford. Huh! He was right. He also said that he might have the other bucket, but he would have to get close enough with his mower to Id it. An old ’41 nose out in his field.
This is the result. It seems like this guy just has to show up and problems go away. THANKS BILL.

 

With both buckets painted, I'm waiting for the adjusters that I've just ordered.

While I'm waiting for the adjusters I'm doing 4-5 hours in the am to beat the heat. My knee gets cut on the fifth of Sept., so I' should have ALOT done by then. Just rubbed the lower nose and doors.

 

So, glad things keep moving along. I'm rooting for you!

 

Probably too late now (and I might be wrong anyway... it's been known to happen) but I think the headlight buckets are the same from '41 right through to '51. I haven't taken detailed measurements, but when I was working on the headlights on my '51 I compared to my '41 sitting right beside me in the garage and they look identical (unless my '41 has later buckets?). If nothing else that would make finding parts easy. Shoebox Central has buckets and all the springs and screws etc. (Mac's, Dennis Carpenter etc. all carry the springs and screws etc.).

OK, there's a little more to this than I thought. I want to get the body/paint squared away and then assemble everything. The grille needs some fab work on some of the spacers and I think I will do that after the surgery (fri). I want to try and get all the trim on it tomorrow. View attachment 2706429
