    Hey guys,
So I just real pleaded the bushings for the the generator in my 50 olds and they are sparking a lot. My question is. Is that normal and if not what can I do to prevent it. Please have. Best regards

How much time have you given then to seat in?
Could be the springs are weak.

Does "real pleaded the bushings" mean you replaced the bushings? No, bushings are not supposed to spark. Or are you talking about the brushes? And no, they are not supposed to spark either.

Did you polarize your generator after you reinstalled it? If not, find the method in an old Motors Manual for a GM generator. Don't do it the Ford way.

I just put them in yesterday and I started it the car up and they were sparking where the brushing makes contact on on the one side as well

Would it be that the arm holding the bushing is applying to much pressure?

I would guess the springs are weak and holding done on the brushes good enough.
It may need to run for a few minutes for them to seat in.

Don't start the thing again until you polarize it. Then tell us if it still sparks.

Did you clean the armature where the brushes ride? Did you clean anything else when you replaced the brushes? Carbon and other gunk can get where you don't want it and may cause arcing.

All my "brushes" spark a little where they rub the commutator. They will seat with time and the sparking will settle down. It's quite common to see some light sparking from a generator at night.

Did you turn the armature or was it clean and smooth? If it was all rutted and chewed up you must have it turned.

Or did you clean it with glass paper? If you use emery or sandpaper it can embed grit in the copper.

There could be a tiny bit of sparks when it is running but if it is bad enough to be real obvious something is wrong.

The only spark is when the car is running and the one side brush is in contact with the commutator
